Good: Win is a win especially on the road in Austin against a very hostile crowd. Also, of course, Bryce. Without him, we do not win. Nice to see Gibbs get the ball on those early drives. McClelland's run. That was spectacular! Believe it or not, Koolaid's PI penalties saved a touchdown. Anderson making a couple of big plays at the right time.
I'll add a Texas good: it was good to see them improve on defense. I did not expect that. Honestly, whoever thought Texas should have been -20 shouldn't be setting lines but I guess it's still early. They looked good overall until Ewars got hurt. Ewars was en route to a Stephen Garcia kind of day before he got injured. With him in, they probably win this game but you never know.
Bad: Penalties. Offensive line. OBrien. Bad playcalling. No creativity. Too bad Sarkisian wants to be a head coach and not just an OC at Alabama. I don't blame him though. Texas' season was this game. It wouldn't surprise me to see them play flat for the next 2 or 3 games. This will tell us really how much they've improved (and maybe tell us how good or bad we really are). Our defense still hasn't generated any turnovers.
A Texas bad: Ewars getting injured but to be honest, that was a typical SEC hit and should not have been an RTP penalty.
Ugly: Austin fans doing curse chants but not too unexpected. That's just Texas for ya. Anyways .... not being able to bring the band made the game not so fun. As bad as the penalties were (we deserved them all), the refs screwed over both teams very often. The supposed sack of Bryce for a safety was just a freak play and believe it or not, the right call. OBrien's play calling was bad AND ugly at times. Shotgun on 4th and inches? Come on guys.
Overall - in cfb now, in games like this, just get the win and let Nick Saban point out areas of improvement. I just hope the players are still buying in and not just going through the motions for a big payday one day.
