The running game... or lack thereof

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

The linked article indicated that the initial SEC availability report is released on Wednesday night (tonight).
2 different conversations. Sanjose Crimson said he heard that Richard Young was injured during the Wisconsin game. Then I asked whether Alabama was mandated to list him on the previous injury reports. someone else he suggested he be listed as questionable or probable. To which I made my statement that he wasnt listed

My bad, I thought he was referencing Miller... 🤔

It may be crappy run blocking, but Hill and Young seem to make a beeline to the nearest defender.

However, given that Jam and Riley find a hole much more often, I question their vision.

Very excited about Dear after he learns the ropes.

And we definitely need to improve here.

We've managed to generate some crazy TOP this year though! 38 to 22 minutes for Vandy and Mizzou.

Agreed. To my mind, OL is the one spot you don't want to routinely sub at. They need to play together. Or do one guy who routinely subs in the interior and one tackle. You just can't randomly sub so easily here.
Hill hasn't played that much. He's very athletic and versatile. He needs to step it up, and show why he was named Mississippi Player of the Year by SBLive, after a really great senior year in high school.

Thanks; missed it right in front of my nose...

agree! I thought we got a steal when Bama snag him out of all places, Mississippi.
I believe he still has potential to be a solid contributor. he does lots of things well and if he can pass protect better, we'll see more of him in the rotation. he's our biggest back and would be ideal in goal line situations.

That series of runs HIll got after Jam went down was really good.

I suspect the one thing holding him back is pass protection/blitz recognition/pickup.

I hope they are really working with him on that this week, because he's the best option in Jam's absence, IMO.

Riley will get the majority of snaps because he is the better ball carrier and receiver imo. He is 185 soaking wet so his pass pro is limited and hopefully Hill can alleviate some of those opportunities. I wouldn't be shocked to see us go empty on quite a few downs Saturday to put UT's defense in a bind from a pressure standpoint.

It will be crucial for Ty Simpson to be on time, on target, and have pacing. So same ole same old for Ty. The Vols will blitz to apply pressure. If Ty meets the above, we will shred the Vols defense. Of course the OL, TE and RB groups have to pick up and chip everything. The short passing game will very much enhance our ability to run
