and neither of those crimes he supposedly committed justify killing him, imho
In my opinion, I think quite possibly they do.

It seems the majority of the press think these jurors who have heard all the evidence are likely to agree.

We shall see

"Stand Your Ground" would justify the killing.
from the stand point of that law, possibly if it is written loosely (i don't know about the laws in florida, but i'm pretty sure that wouldn't fly in georgia). but i don't see how TM didn't also get the benefit of stand your ground, could he have attacked (assuming he did) GZ because he felt threatened?

ETA: i am talking justifiable from more of a moral standpoint, not purely a legal one.

again, this is just mho, but i don't think getting your butt beat by an unarmed man is a justifiable excuse for killing.
Thankfully, the law (in most states) doesn't agree with you. And considering more than twice as many people are killed with hands each year than with rifles, I'd say those are good laws.

i would like to see the data on that. limiting the comparison to just rifles vs. hands seems to be a bit of a stretch as far as justifying that. additionally, you would need to look at in-home vs out of home incidents (i think that lethal force with a gun is justified within one's home) and also domestic violence cases

Check the FBI statistics. Of course handguns kill far more than hands, just making the point that the hands are deadly weapons, especially when they belong to those who are younger and on drugs. In this case, it appears TM was unarmed, but how many guys have been attacked like GZ was only to be killed via knife? Quite a few.

IOW, TM attacked GZ and was beating him, fairly badly by what the evidence shows. How do we know TM would have stopped before killing GZ? Zimmerman certainly didn't know that.

The takeaway here is you probably shouldn't attack someone if they aren't attacking you, and if you decide to attack someone physically, you better be certain they're not armed.
