I know you are counting JPW, Fanuzzi and McElroy as Qb ahead of Jackson, but I wouldn't necessairly say they are "good QBs." JPW is inconsistant at best, and both Mc and Fanz are both unproven, so I can't agree with you assesment that Alabama has "# good QBs." Plus you are don't mention that Alabama also will give Brad Smelley a long, and legitimate look at QB, plus Burton Scott can play some QB, ala David Palmer.i don't care how much talent he has. we have three good QB's above him and he can have one extra year on campus if he redshirts.
But my philiosophy on "Redshirting" is that, don't unless the player is so ridiculously raw, that he needs a couple of yrs before he's ready to contribute. Which is not the case with Star Jackson. Coaches who redshirt talented youngsters, are often fired before said youngster even reaches the field. And considering how quickly things can change for a coach at a university (even Nick Saban at Alabama), a coach can't save a player, and try to get an "extra yr" out of him. If the kid can play, and is better ten your current options, then you have to play him. Quite frankly, you can make a strong argument Jackson is better then any QB on the rsoter. If Star has a great fall practice, he'll definately NOT be red-shirted. The goal is to win now, cause tomorrow may be different.
So, definately look for Jackson to play as a freshman.
