i don't care how much talent he has. we have three good QB's above him and he can have one extra year on campus if he redshirts.
I know you are counting JPW, Fanuzzi and McElroy as Qb ahead of Jackson, but I wouldn't necessairly say they are "good QBs." JPW is inconsistant at best, and both Mc and Fanz are both unproven, so I can't agree with you assesment that Alabama has "# good QBs." Plus you are don't mention that Alabama also will give Brad Smelley a long, and legitimate look at QB, plus Burton Scott can play some QB, ala David Palmer.

But my philiosophy on "Redshirting" is that, don't unless the player is so ridiculously raw, that he needs a couple of yrs before he's ready to contribute. Which is not the case with Star Jackson. Coaches who redshirt talented youngsters, are often fired before said youngster even reaches the field. And considering how quickly things can change for a coach at a university (even Nick Saban at Alabama), a coach can't save a player, and try to get an "extra yr" out of him. If the kid can play, and is better ten your current options, then you have to play him. Quite frankly, you can make a strong argument Jackson is better then any QB on the rsoter. If Star has a great fall practice, he'll definately NOT be red-shirted. The goal is to win now, cause tomorrow may be different.

So, definately look for Jackson to play as a freshman.

Add to that fact that we will be bringing in more talent every year than he needs to play if he is the best qb on our roster. Redshirting now a days is for o line man that need time to get bigger and mature. Andre Smith's are not very common.

We sure do need a little clarity on that issue . It used to be alright ? Some are okay ? Depends on if it's an even or odd day ? Help ! I thought I knew the rules and did what I've always done a couple of days ago & the link vanished . How could I lend credibility to that particular post without a link ?

Anyway , I could PM S or C but , an answer on the board would help others .
The bottom line is if it is a premium or subscription article it should not be linked to the board and definitely not directly quoted due to copyright laws. You can discuss it by saying read elsewhere that... I heard that... or simply state the gist of what you read. Just paraphrase what was read without giving away the entire article or using any copy and paste or direct quotes. The premium sites make a living selling their articles.

.....but , when did it change ? The staff used to tell us - "If it's premium , do not copy it , add the link , because the premium site deserves the "hit" ."

I had always posted premium links as a "pointer" even without adding any of the content . I'd never had one zapped until this past week .

Just curious if I had missed something a couple of months back when I was without a computer . :conf3:

One thing about redshirting is that it also ties up a scholarship for an additional year. With the 85 limit, the management of scholarships is the primary key to success.

The is also the negative that a great player may only be on the field for two years and go to the NFL rather than for three. This is a rare problem but would have likely occurred with Andre Smith and may happen with Knowshon Moreno at UGA.

In today's world it seems like deliberate redshirting should only be reserved for players that (1) are not likely to be high draft picks and/or (2) cannot meaningfully contribute as a freshman but could in the future with added strength, size or understanding.

we need as many explosive players as possible on the field right now. if during practices, star can prove to have explosive potential he will no doubt get his chance during games. i also disagree on the assessment that we have 3 good QB's. it reminds me of lots of bama fans saying we were loaded at RB before last season started. No way he RS's with what we have right now at QB imo
