It was actually Tom Watson who voiced those criticisms of Tiger. I expect some of you will read something extra into that fact, too.
You're right. I misheard the announcer when they were going over the clips from Watson. Here's the link to his comments. Article

‘There was language and club throwing on the golf course,’ said Watson. ‘I feel that he has not carried the same stature in the game as other great players that have come along like Jack (Nicklaus), Arnold (Palmer), Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan.
'You can grant that of a young person that has not been out here for a while. But I think he needs to clean up his act and show the respect for the game that other people before him have shown.’

I respect great talents and I am not the biggest golf fan, but I do get upset when Tiger screams MF and GD and you see a 5 year-old a foot from him. Intensity is great but I think he should at least try to show some hint of effort at restraint. He is a role model to millions and I for one would hope he wouldn't take it lightly. Does he have to nice and respectful? No. He can be a complete moron, but after this latest news I think he will have much less appeal to folks if he doesn't change some of his negative ways on the course. JMO.

What would be your preferred image of golf?

Money has changed all sports, I don't know if I would necessarily say for the better or not, but to each his own. And technology has more to do with scores dropping than anything else. The courses have been made to be more difficult as a result of the game being easier than it used to be as a result of the technology cheaply and readily available today. Seen anyone playing with a persimmon driver lately?
I don't have a preferred image. It is what it is. A game played by men for piles of cash. No better or worse than any other game played by men for piles of cash.

Explain this to me.

Edit: And why does Tiger playing make it worth watching?
I find it rather boring to watch when he is not playing. I really enjoy watching it when he is there.

I began playing about 10 years ago, I have followed him since I really got into the sport.

I can't really explain why. I just enjoy watching Tiger play golf.

Same here, and I don't know why. I love to watch golf but haven't watched a minute since he stepped away...

I'm interested in watching him hold court for a few minutes in an effort to repair his reputation. I will like watching him squirm (to the extent what little conscience he has allows him to squirm). What he needs to do is shut up, just play golf and keep playing around on his wife, the things at which he's obviously very skilled.

Go with your strengths and all that.:biggrin2:

I don't think he'll be squirming. Why should he? He just going to get up in front of a handpicked audience of friends, sycophant media and business associates and make a phony speech about how sorry he is and how he will dedicate himself to making up for his indiscretions, you know, sort of a Tim Tebow speech. Probably be a few tears too if he's one of those that can cry on cue. There will surely be a lot of looking down as if he's having trouble controlling his emotions.

It will probably be quite a show and immediately afterwards, the media suck-ups will stampede to be the first to praise him for his heroic and heartfelt decision to "face the music," change his life and repair his family. If Elin and the kids are in attendence, it will be quite the show with the cameras flicking back and forth from him to them.

This might be Oscar-worthy if there were a category for it. Maybe they can invent one, something like Most Repentant Scumbag or Biggest Charade.

You've got to know that Snead, Nicklaus, Trevino, Palmer...all had women on the side, groupies.

I wonder how many of them would be running away to "therapy" if their wives caught them like Tiger's did.

A different time.

His "apology" will be accepted or rejected by people as is everything else in life - we see and hear what we want to see and hear. He stumbled through almost 20 minutes of apologies and pleas to leave his wife and children out of it. He took full responsibility, then said that he was going back into treatment. He said that he is going to play golf again, but that he has no timetable.

He said that his apologies mean nothing without action (no, riz - not that kind of action )...

You bought all that crap? Wish I could have knocked on your door when I was trying to sell vacuum cleaners door to door.

I heard that he said he was a practicing Buddhist.

Well, if Buddha affords all the earthly pleasures he was gettin', I'm taking the rest of the day off and going down to the temple to burn incense to that fat lotus-dancing icon. :cool2:

The speech came across very sincere and he said everything he needed to the way he needed to. He was probably coached very well over the past week or so. His PR team did a pretty good job. They wrote him a good speech.

Very well written speech and I'm sure he was coached to look directly into the camera and pause briefly at key points.

So I hear he is going back to rehab. Any hot chics at the rehab center?

I saw where celebrity atty Gloria Allred immediately called a press conference, complete with a porn star who says Tiger done her wrong.

Good heavens, the woodwork creaks and out come the freaks.

Did you mean that Allred's clients are celebrities or that she's the celebrity? Sometimes, I have a hard time telling.
