IF he's projected first round, I don't think the reward for him outweighs the riskk. It he stays his three-year salary could get bumped up by a higher figure in 26, but if he goes first round (and he's projected to) then he gets three years of guaranteed $$$. Coming back to Bama, he'd probably make the same $$$ figure for 2026, but if he were to get injured those two years of guaranteed $$$ would vanish. Even at the bottom of the first round, that's going to be 4-5 million dollars that would be lost.
Just a quick scan of the top three NBA projected draft sites shows him as #30, #31, and #32. There are 30 picks in the first round. He is right on the cusp so he would be taking a chance of falling to the second round. If he does, there is no guaranteed contract. It will all depend on the feedback he gets from the draft advisory board and from his workouts. I think he would definitely benefit from coming back and improving so he can ensure a first round slot. Plus, he kind of showed in the tournament at times he's a little weak and timid, especially finishing around the rim, so he needs to get stronger and more selectively aggressive.

Pretty versatile for a big. Can even go to his left hand. And he can shoot the 3.

He'll have to adjust to the athleticism of the SEC, but "you can't teach size!"
To me, he looks to be a slightly more athletic, taller version of Grant Nelson. He seems to have a quicker twitch to his game - both in the inside movement and outside shooting stroke. That's helpful.

No doubt about the benefit to coming back - provided he stays healthy. When I think about him, I think about Josh Primo a few years back. Primo was anywhere from a mid-first to second round projection and was only considered a top 10 wing, but one team fell in love with him and as a result he went in the 1st round. I'd think there's one NBA team out there that probably would do the same for Philon.

If that's the case I could definitely see him returning. Things could change after combine and what not but he could potentially be a top 10 pick if he'll take one more year to really develop.

I'll agree about the timid and weak, also he was very indecisive/ hesitant at times throughout the year on when and where to takes his shots.

Sherrell…6-10 230# when he committed and is now 7’ 250#. He’s still growing! Me likey. If he can work on his hops a little and learn to use that big body and play with a little more control, look out. How many guys that size come out of the HS ranks knowing how to use what the Good Lord gave em? I dare say very few.

The Williamson guy, I like his catch and shoot on those 3’s in the video. No hesitation. He moves well, would like another 20 lbs or more on him though.

I just don’t see Philon being a pro just yet. His shot isn’t consistent but getting better. His handles are a little loose at times and his defense disappears for stretches (then again defense doesn’t matter in the NBA). Maybe I’m looking through Crimson colored glasses but he needs another year of maturity. I could see him going from a late first/early second round guy, to top 15 easily by adding some bulk and being a little less loose.

Meechie Johnson transfers from South Carolina to Ohio State now transferring back to South Carolina so I guess a guy can leave and come back. I would figure that would burn too many bridges.

In the past it did but this is the new norm (for now). When you start looking at it from a professional standpoint, it all boils down to money.

Magoon Gwath withdraws from the portal. That is one guy I wanted as a true rim protector who can run like a gazelle. The offensive game was starting to translate too.
