Re: Trendon Watford

You may be right about that. Oats is moving swiftly to get his next team together. If he gets the feeling of being slow played he seems the type that would move on in a hurry. There are a lot of good players out there for what he wants to build on the court so no need to fret over one young player.
Sounds like another coach we have.😁 Good for Oats if the kid does not want to be at Bama then good luck to him elsewhere. I'm sure Oats has a good idea if he is coming to Bama or not. And judging by how many prospects Oats has reached out to and the spots or spot the team has left I would say there is a good chance we see him playing for somebody else next season.

Re: Trendon Watford

Watford's recruitment has been all over the board it seems. Bama, Memphis, Duke...and LSU...and Indiana. I was in Memphis last week and people there were confident he is heading there. Before the Will Wade dumpster fire at LSU, people were convinced he was locked down there.

If Trendon's goal was to "keep people guessing as long as possible" he has certainly accomplished that.

Re: Trendon Watford

IMO the staff has moved on from him.
They may have but given Watford said he does not know the staff well moving out the announcement date gives him and Oats/staff more time to get to know each other. I know that is a 1/2 full statement but it could be a good sign rather than he is looking at LSWho or Memphis.

Re: Trendon Watford

Drew DeArmond was on Gary Harris's show in Tuscaloosa this morning and discussed Trendon's options:

Memphis - was expected to go to Memphis but is holding off to see what Precious Achiuwa does. Achiuwa is visiting this weekend and could sign with Memphis. He and TW are similar in size and position (both are 6'9 SF). Memphis has one scholarship left, so Achiuwa going to Memphis could eliminate Memphis from TW's list.

LSU - Wade being back could help them get back in it even if the program is on shaky ground since the Wada saga is not finished.

Alabama - still want TW and trying to stay in it while seeing how TW is handling things.

I'm still pulling for him to come :)

We all do, including the new sheriff, but in the end Trendon has to make up his mind if he want greener pastures at a basketball school or stick close to home and help awaken a sleeping giant.

Re: Trendon Watford

Scott Sanderson said today on the radio he was told by a very reliable source prior to the Will Wade saga Trendon was LSU bound. He doesn't know where things stand now other than LSU is trying to get back in the mix and he finds the decision to delay an announcement coming the day after Wade being reinstated to be eyebrow raising.

So this means that Watford is Memphis' backup plan if they don't sign Achiuwa (Gesundheit!)? I hope Watford and his family realize this. I'm still of the opinion that Watford family is smart enough to not go to LSU. I have to believe that Duke and/or Indiana may be more of a concern than LSU or Memphis.

I've always thought that it was as follow before Oats were hired:
1. LSU
2. Memphis.
3. Indiana
Duke never really offered him, I don't think. Alabama were out... but when oats were hired... and LSU suspended Wade... I truly believed it became like this:
1. Memphis
2. Alabama
3. LSU

But now Wade is back in picture... I believe it is between LSU, Memphis and Alabama in distant third...

True ... but's if he really wants to consider a basketball school he needs to go to Duke or even Indy to be honest. If he's looking at it objectively, how can they debate that LSU and Memphis is a better option than Alabama ...

LSU is losing all of it's main talent from the past season to the NBA so they will be in rebuilding mode with less talent. Plus there's sill the thing with the coach ...

Memphis has the possibility of putting together a good roster but it's not a sure thing they will make it to the tourney under CPH next year.

CNO has already been to the tourney twice with Buffalo and has proven he can get the most out of the talent he has ... talentwise at UA he already as a roster thats as good, if not better than what he's had at Buffalo.

I guess it will be interesting to see what happens in four days :)

We don't know when we'll see what happens. He announced he's no longer making his decision on 4/20.

Re: Trendon Watford

I certainly want him to come to Bama, but it is not live or die for us. I think we'll be fine with or without him. If he wants to go to LSU or Memphis, lets see how much playing time he ends up with at either school. He'll will likely get more playing time here, but we'll see if he ends up in the transfer portal somewhere down the road. If he ever intends on coming back to Alabama and having a career here, it would help him to have roots here. In Tennessee or LA, he will be just another kid from out of state.

BTW, Jeff Goodman picked us in a "Way too early poll" as number 11 in the country. Woohoo.

Check already cleared? Now that he’s been reinstated it might be tough to renig?

I’d like to think otherwise, but recent history suggests otherwise.
