Trump Attacks Iran, II

Now, the Iranians are claiming they "control" the Strait of Hormuz and may start charging a toll on ships bearing oil bound for the US. This is novel from several standpoints. For one, it's 24 miles wide. For another, they only control the northeast side Oman and Saudi control the other side. Nevertheless, they have enough drones, torpedo boats and subs adapted to shallow water to make life miserable for shippers. In fact, shipping will likely remain at a standstill, unless we escort. We could contest their control only at great effort and cost...

It’s difficult - now - to determine who’s the bigger liar, Iran (who lies reflexively) or the current White House (ditto).

At least with prior administrations, red or blue, we could USUALLY believe what they said compared with Iran. Iran-contra was a sort of exception and in that instance the lying was more by omission than by “no, we didn’t sell them arms.”

This time, it’s 50-50.

I learned what liars Iran are by watching the Iran-Iraq war during the 1980s. Both of them.

And to be honest - their propaganda sounded almost verbatim like something coming out of a Trump briefing.

Yeah, the two biggest questions remain unanswered. Or at least, not answered consistently and convincingly.

1. Why are we doing this?
2. How do we define victory? Under what circumstances will we bring our forces home?

And in testimony to the idea that neither of these questions were adequately considered before the fact, we now have shifting answers to both.

I think Earle was right in that the attacks were launched as a Wag The Dog-esque attempt to divert the public's attention.

Earle is 100% right and you answered your 1st question.

It’s extremely disheartening to see these tactics actually have success.

I guess the general population is just this predictable.

It doesn’t help that we don’t really have a truly independent source of news for people to tune into.

People are so brainwashed by their Slanted Cable TV news and just take everything this administration does and says at face value by the way it’s framed and presented.

I’m not sure I’d want to actually know the average Americans IQ.

It’s gotta be less than 100 though.

Intelligent people ask questions with a curious mind and seek out as much information as possible.

Non Intelligent people just let everything wash right over them as is no questions asked.

There’s too many Americans letting the ‘News’ Wash over them.

*sigh*

We have a man who notoriously refuses to plan anything at all.

He's real big on spectacles - firing off Roman candles to let you know he's there, but he doesn't accomplish ANYTHING. His tax cut was almost exclusively the brainchild of Paul Ryan, and his SCOTUS judges were culled from a list provided by Mitch McConnell - ANY Republican President would probably have appointed the same three judges Trump did.

What has he passed in this term? The "big beautiful bill," something his only actual involvement with was his pathetic fixation on superlatives to compensate for his lack of ever becoming an actual man.

Everything else has been a pile of worthless executive orders that will go into the trash.

Now we have him overseeing the thing he's least qualified to do: a military in a war of choice where he made the choice.

Trump is the perfect Boomer President. Somebody else is gonna pay for it, he's gonna stay out of going to war himself, and it's all gonna be someone else's fault because of some theory of Dr. Spock.

He had no plan and a party that thrived for five decades even on (to a large degree) holding REPUBLICAN Presidents accountable has turned their heads like a heel wrestling announcer and suddenly has something in their eye the moment the guy in the ring pulls out brass knuckles.

The last 30 minutes on Wall Street:

The US Energy Secretary posted that a ship had safely transited the Strait of Hormuz.

Markets surged. Oil tanked. Hope briefly entered the room. Then he deleted the tweet.

Markets reversed. Oil pumped back up.

Then Karoline Leavitt confirmed: no ship has gone through the Strait.

The Energy Secretary of the United States accidentally moved global oil markets with a false post — then deleted it.

This is the administration managing the most severe energy crisis in modern history.

Steve Witkoff doesn’t know how the war ends.

Trump says “you could say both.”

And the Energy Secretary is posting and deleting market-moving misinformation in real time.

Iran is laying mines.

These people have no idea what they’re doing.

This is the most incompetent administration in American history. Biden or Harris in office would be infinitely better.

He will call this "fake news" in 3......2......1....

The U.S. Navy has refused near-daily requests from the shipping industry for military escorts through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on Iran, saying the risk of attacks is too high for now, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The ‌Navy's assessments spell continued disruption to Middle East oil exports and reflect a divergence from President Donald Trump’s statements that the U.S. is prepared to provide naval escorts whenever needed to restart regular shipments along the key waterway.
