Well if you believe that guy our President is a complete fraud. We knew this already. The peace talks were a ruse an attempt to put the genie back in the bottle.

Now everything is worse off. If you import anything from through the Strait of Hormuz you are paying a toll and a tariff. Brilliant.

Now its possible for foreign nations to buy oil through the strait but dominated in Chinese currency likely avoiding the toll as well on these terms.

Now if the strait is going to be open international waters again it will likely require surviving a nuclear attack and a mobilization of troop in Iran.

This idiocy following all the tariff crap just pushed the eastern hemisphere countries closer to China and Russia, imo.

Trump is a screwup on an international scale...

I understand that we can't accept any information at face value. What he did report today appeared authentic to me.

There was a report from a European survey last week that said the majority of survey respondents felt that China presented a lesser threat to them than Trump MAGA!

In my opinion we are nearing the point where China and Russia will become more involved in the conflict on Iran's side. Particularly if we attempt to block Chinese access to oil.

When was the last time China nuked someone or attacked them?

At some point we have to realize that while not always unnecessary, constantly tossing our military power around the world has a limited benefit.

China plays long pragmatic games and doesn’t see any reason to use force to overtake something. I doubt one Chinese boot will ever touch Taiwanese soil when they finally take the island. Because they won’t have to. They will take it like Hong Kong in showing them that they have no allies to rely on to try to prevent the inevitable avalanche.

China’s biggest threat is North Korea dorking up the situation and forcing their hands into a confrontation with the United States or making people more comfortable in rearming Japan to combat the threat. Other than that China has no reason to use troops

I read a long form last year (can't recall the source) talking the advantages Putin and Xi derive from essentially being dictators for life. It frees them up to play that long game particularly well compared to ping pong of American politics. In particular, despite your politics, I think this is one reason everyone should be worried about what the Trump admin is doing. We are burning up our long term political reserves at an extraordinary pace.

Trump is, indeed, George Costanza:
- he's from Queens
- his father was a raging nitwit
- he goes out of his way to be seen with black people so folks won't think he's racist
- he claims to be an architect
- boasts about his performance on largely meaningless tests
- has affairs with the hired help and then gives them money to not go to the boss
- buy $600 cashmere sweaters for 85 bucks hoping nobody will notice the red dot on it
- makes fun of fat people
- has never actually read “breakfast at Tiffany’s”
- would rather a person die in a fire than give up his ATM password
- never served in the military
