  • President Donald Trump announced deals with Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk to slash the prices of some of their obesity drugs, including upcoming pills, in a landmark effort to expand access to the costly blockbuster treatments.
  • The agreements will lower prices of GLP-1 drugs on Medicare and Medicaid and offer the treatments directly to consumers at a discount on a website the Trump administration is launching in January 2026 called TrumpRx.gov.
  • The deals are among the most politically significant announcements to date in the Trump administration’s efforts to rein in high U.S. drug costs by tying them to the lowest prices abroad.

Reactions from the Democrats are pouring in:

“Calling Americans fat is just another assault on our fragile democracy. The Trump Admin proves yet again how they hate everyone not white” – Chucky “Cheese” Schumer

The Republicans prove once again they are the party for the oligarchs. In typical Republican fashion, they are going to charge everyone the same price as the oligarchs. Poor people are overweight too” - Hakeem Jeffries

“This is just more pandering to middle age white people. I mean, only white people get fat since no one else can afford food.” – Sandy Cortez

“New Yorkers don’t need Ozempic. I’ll just pass a bill that transfers the fat from all the working class onto the 1%” – “Don’t mess with the Zohran” Mamdani

“Why does everyone talk about Michelle all the time? I was the one that was actually president" – Barack Obama

“Hold on, let me just finish this stock trade first, then I’ll answer your question” –
Nancy Pelosi

I was concerned after Trump ended a Biden program designed to lower these costs, but this is a good move that will hopefully help many people. Kudos to Trump for these deals.

Definitely a good thing; of course, it's pretty obvious that the thought process was something like this:

1. A program that will make Biden look good? KILL IT!!!
2. Oh, people really wanted to have drug prices lowered?
3. OK, I'll do it.
4. But Biden can't get any credit.
5. So I'll put my name on the website.

BRILLIANT post, LOL. Well done!

It's also pretty obvious Biden didn't have what it took to get it done. Biden - 4 years to accomplish and nothing to show for it, Trump - 10 months to get it done.

From the linked article I provided:

It’s not the first time the government has floated Medicare coverage of obesity drugs. Former President Joe Biden proposed a rule at the end of his term that would have allowed the program to cover those treatments, but the Trump administration in April declined to finalize the measure.

Biden’s proposal would have extended access to roughly 3.4 million Medicare beneficiaries. But it was controversial at the time, as it would cost taxpayers as much as $35 billion over nine years, a congressional analysis found.

But some health experts contend that covering the drugs could eliminate the downstream costs involved with treating obesity-related conditions.

And from this article:

The proposal would have significantly expanded access to those drugs to millions of Americans but would have cost the government billions.
-------------------

Seems to me Biden's proposed plan wasn't the same as this one. But I could be wrong......

The Trump plan will likely be less expensive for the government (depending on the uptake, of course).

I also never argued which President's plan was "better". I don't have the details. What I do know is that one of them actually got something done on the issue while the other did not. Biden's plan may have been better, we'll never know.

We were well on our way to bankruptcy before Trump ever thought about running for office.

I love how this entire journey starts with “we need a businessman to manage the economy” and then when he fails as he unfailingly did at every other business venture, the pivot is “ well other people messed it up before he got here!” Excuse me, wasn’t he supposed to be BETTER?

This might be a valid excuse if he had demonstrated any economic acumen over the last decade, but he spends like a drunken sailor in a brothel.

Can anybody name any business Trump has ever run that was successful or anything he has ever accomplished except making his name a big name that the marks worship?

Has anyone told the skunk wearing Day Glo that you can’t declare Chapter 11 for a nation?

He doesn’t seem to have ever listened in class at Wharton except the day bankruptcy was taught.

his "business" was/is never anything but a racket. iirc, he was pretty "washed up" when that idiotic reality show came out and people thought he really was the character they were watching every thursday night after honey boo-boo

Trump supporters brook no criticism of Dear Leader — MAGA loves its Zeus.

And he seems to think he's still the show's character.

Seriously, the only thing he ever gets 'into" is telling people "you're fired!"

This is President Nixon talking to journalist Teddy White in 1972, answering who it would take to run the US government:

"Businessmen? Damn it, most businessmen aren’t good at government. Some people go to the other extreme, get intellectuals—but intellectuals get torn to pieces in government at the levels they have to work at. Then they say, get politicians—but politicians, though they do have the necessary experience, they tend to be not imaginative enough….”

His entire life story is a charade. Sure, he has more money than I do, but I was also born into a rather poor (for the time) family and can remember sitting around the table looking at a dime while my mother went down the street to borrow bread and peanut butter to feed her two boys because we had no money. My Dad had spent the last $4 out of the account on beer. (Before you judge him too harshly, he's reformed now and dry, a church deacon, and this was only five years after he'd left Vietnam, so I spot him a lot now. Alcohol was how he coped for 25 years).

Trump was born to a rich family and clearly has reason to be terrified I'll see his tax return and know he's more fake than a get well card from an undertaker. But seriously......other than PUTTING HIS NAME OUT THERE and ASSOCIATING it with big buildings and success (most of which he doesn't own), can anybody tell me a damn thing this guy ever actually did that was impressive? He's failed at steaks, vodka, the Trump Shuttle, the Trump Game, the USFL, pretty much everything. Even his first term was so bad it killed people.

Rick Wilson, the GOP consultant who left the party over Trump, assumed Trump was a billionaire and the GOP had to be concerned, but one Wall Street rich guy actually told him, "No, I'm a billionaire. He's a clown living on credit."

e.t.t.d. it's axiomatic.

Justice Dept. Is Said to Be Investigating D.C. Mayor Over Foreign Trip

The investigation into Muriel E. Bowser, which is being handled by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, could face significant hurdles because of the known facts of the case and recent turmoil inside the Justice Department.

Federal prosecutors have opened a corruption investigation into Mayor Muriel E. Bowser of Washington, examining a foreign trip she took with members of her staff that was paid for by Qatar, according to people familiar with the inquiry.

Really? Dealing with Qatar is grounds for a corruption investigation by the Justice Department? Hmmm.

Trump is Jim Garrison, without the law degree.
