I am really sorry for Tua, but no way he's back in time for the CFP...at least with the mobility he will need.

We're all rooting for Jalen now...
Silly. He may not be 100% but he will be back. 85-90% Tua is good enough.

According to Dr Waldrop, the ankle specialist at Andrews' orthopedic practice, athletes are running by day 8 or 9 and cutting as soon as they feel capable.

I haven't been confrontational. Let's not make this personal.

The recovery from this procedure is based on the severity of the injury, not the procedure itself. When Jalen was injured, he couldn't walk. Tua was able to walk around in the 4th quarter and during the post-game celebrations. So it is clear that Tua's injury was not as severe. From that we can conclude that Tua's recovery time will be faster.

Jalen was able to play effectively in 4 weeks. That is my reasoning.
I'm not trying to make it personal...just a dismissive tone in some of your posts that you normally do not have. Your reasoning is fine...my image of JH is different. It's been at least 5 weeks and he's still not 100%. With Tua he has 2 injured ankles and a "recovering" injured knee. That doesn't bode well for playing at the top level in 1 month.

We will see, that's for sure.

For what it's worth I think Tua should stay home and rehab too.

I wanted him to win the Heisman and Maxwell awards etc etc but unfortunately after yesterday Murray is going to win everything.

There is no point in doing all that traveling and generally being out and about when you should be rehabbing just to watch other people win the awards.

If would be different if he didn't JUST have surgery for an injury that is notorious for taking a long time to heal on average.

This is about TEAM right now. What's best for the Team is everything being done to help him heal asap.

Heard a guy with Andrews' group talking about the tightrope procedure a few weeks ago. Couple of things to take into consideration. First, much of the recovery time is dependent on 1) the severity of the separation between the tibia and fibula 2) the ability to control/alleviate swelling in the first few days post op and 3) motivation of the individual to recover. He said return to playing depends much on the sport/position played. In football it probably easier to get someone like a lineman back on the field quicker than a skilled position player that makes more "lateral cutting" movements.

Remember as well that when it comes to rehab, we have some of the top medical staff in the country. It's not like you or I going to physical therapy a couple times a week after an ortho procedure. You can bet the staff will have Tua on an accelerated schedule as soon as possible after surgery.

I apologize if my post seemed dismissive. There are so many active threads and posts, and I am posting on 2 boards right now, so I am probably not taking the time that I should to explain my point of view.

I am totally stoked for you guys and just want Tua to be ready to finish this thing.

Agree to disagree. He will be far more active and get far less rest.
He will be a week in and likely won't be looking for all that much rest. He will use crutches if needed.

Besides, it really doesn't matter too much what we think. Saban will do everything to make it happen for his player and will mitigate any negatives. There's no way he would keep him away unless he couldn't go.

I understand that but if you had a once in a lifetime chance to win the most prestigious individual award in team sports, and all you had to do was PT in your hotel room... you wouldnt go?
I guess that is a matter of opinion. I personally don't care about individual awards in team sports but that is my opinion. I also think they should move this award presentation to after the championship game.

I thought CNS said it takes two weeks to heal. Anyway, different people respond differently to treatments and their healing times can vary. Tua is receiving the best medical care possible. Plus, he is in good standing with the "Great Physcian."

No problem...I probably over reacted myself. I am so fatigued from this game and a 3 hour round trip drive to preach today...

Nope - I would stay at school and rehab. Besides, let's not pretend that he won't be the front runner for all of these awards again next year.
I think you're a smart guy, but i LOATHE that opinion. Remember in 2004 when they didnt give adrian peterson the heisman because "hes a fresman. he'll probably win 2 more" and then he didnt even go back to new york? or when tebow robbed mcfadden as a sophomore and everyone thought mcfadden would win the next one?

i'm not sure that the heisman being the most revered individual award in team sports is a matter of opinion but youre entitled to not like individual awards. I agree that the voting and the award should move to mid january.

I said nothing about him winning the awards. That has already been decided. His attendance is a totally different discussion.

I want him to win every award this season, and provide acceptance speeches remotely.

This should apply to every award. They used to award them early because there were so few bowls, so many great players did not get a chance to play in one and they did not want that to influence voters. With the number of bowls today, that really doesn't apply anymore.

i guess i would have more respect for the history of the game than to telecast my heisman acceptance speech. he's gonna go, and hes gonna rehab just fine.

I agree that he may be better off receiving physical therapy at home since the surgery is so close to the awards ceremony.

It would not be a problem for the producers to interview him for the biosketch segment and provide live feed during the show.

FWIW, my buddy is a sports surgeon up here in DC. Like others have said, the severity of the injury is the key factor in recovery time when it comes to this procedure. However, he pointed out that it is not normally done unless the high ankle sprain is pretty bad to begin with. He said it will shorten the recovery time "somewhat". In his opinion, never having met Tua, obviously, playing again at a pain free level in 4 weeks is possible...not at all definite.
