Isiah is a Chicago kid, known his family for years...My family owned a video store (Ha!) in a small town that his mother lived in...They were the worst. Always late, never rewound, always thought they should get the "New Releases", free stuff...yada yada...I say this to point out that Isiah is a punk and always has been...He never understood having money, just knew that he had it...You can see that in last night's episodes too...He's a smug punk...with money...
He’s been known to be a jerk. He’s complaining again about being left off dream team (I assume no one could stand him). He had some shenanigans as GM/exec as well, correct?

What the hell happened between Isiah Thomas and MJ that makes these two greats hate each other so much?
In a word........Jealousy.

MJ was THE NEXT BIG THING going in 1985, Thomas saw it and it led to Isiah leading a freeze out of MJ during the ASG that year.

IT was also jealous that his city, Chicago, took to MJ---a NY kid---over him.

After battling through the Bird's Celtics and Magic's Lakers to get to the top, he saw the Piston's would be dynasty coming crashing down at the hands of a rising MJ and the Bulls. The Pistons were never the same after the series. And their babies pouting as they were leaving the floor before the game/series was over.

IMO, the Pistons were straight up punks. But I will give them credit for pushing MJ to get into the weight room. Because of the Pistons, MJ became THE ruthless superstar, the GOAT. MJ might have a punk, as someone says in this thread---which is an opinion not fact, but IT and Laimbeer were classless jerks who deserves every negative thing to happen to him, especially IT during his NYK GM tenure.

Good riddance to the Pistons "Bad Boys."

Good memory about the all star game freeze out. I had forgotten about that.

I hate that because I'm 23, people my age get mad when I say that MJ is the greatest, because to them I can't say that because I didn't watch MJ in his prime, as if highlights, full games, and word of mouth don't exist. Sorry he's better than LeBron James.
I don't even think James is in the top 5 of all time. He is in the top 10 for sure but nowhere near the top spot.

If they release all 500 hours of footage, I think I would watch it.
I would. I just love seeing these high achieving athletes' stories. They are great for a reason. I think what set MJ apart from Lebron and many of these newer superstars is MJ was cut from his team and had a huge chip on his shoulder. Same for Pippen and Rodman. They didn't have the publicity early in their life like Lebron. They had to earn it. They also matured physically a little later than some kids do.

Loved the part when MJ said "Barkley may have the MVP but he's not getting the championship."

What I love about this documentary is it does what any good sports documentary is supposed to do. Illustrate why everything that happens around the actual sport.....is just as interesting as the sport itself.

The part about MJ's first meeting with Nike was also really great. His Mom telling him he needed to at least go and listen to them.

Lot of lessons in life here.

So you're saying Isaiah Thomas got Larry Bird and Dr J to conspire with him?????

Jordan took nine shots in that game as a rookie - an All-Star Game.....I'm sorry, I think this is one of those yarns that has grown with the telling (like 1995 Nebraska being the greatest team of all-time).
