Ah, not much to analyze, I suppose. Bottom line, we just aren't very good. We played pretty hard, so no one can we are quitting, but at the end of the day we just aren't very good.

It all goes back to the basics, and our complete inability to do any of them.

We cannot shoot the ball well from the floor, we cannot draw fouls, and we cannot shoot free throws even when we do get to the line. Throw in poor ball movement and the lack of a truly dominant inside player that may open things up outside, and you have a team that really struggles to score points offensively.

On the other end of the floor, we absolutely cannot defend the three, we struggle to rotate defensively, and we constantly blow assignments. We also have a tendency to give opponents too many opportunities in key situations with an inability to rebound the basketball. Add those things up, and we often struggle to do particularly well on the defensive end.

Combined, we generally cannot score many points, and we struggle to stop teams defensively. Put it together and it just turns into very bad play, I'm afraid to say. We all sit here and effectively tell the same story after every game (read loss). Hopefully things will improve, but honestly it may be in our best interest to just keep on losing. At least then we may, perhaps, bring in a good coach who can get things done. Realistically speaking, we aren't going to improve any more this year, and we are unlikely to even make the NIT. And if Gottfried returns, the odds are that we do not do a whole lot better next year, and most likely we will be having this same discussion twelve months from now.

Just not a lot of good things to say about the Alabama basketball team at the moment. In all honesty, about the only two good things we have seen all year is a blowout win at home over an equally terrible Auburn squad, and a few electrifying dunks. Positives outside of those two things are scant and few.

Pretty much nails it on the head.
I still think this team has as much talent as any SEC team.
Maybe I'm wrong but who in the SEC is going to strut into Tuscaloosa and beat out Hendrix, Gee, and Riley?
Transfer those three to Gainseville tomorrow and Donovan wins his third straight national title.

I once thought that coach MG was one of the worst in the SEC at making halftime adjustments.

I've changed my mind, I now believe that he dosn't know how to make adjustments after the half, so he gives a rah rah speech instead.

Hence the player come out of the half without a plan, but they are excited. :mad2:

With Hendrix we would have had a shot. Knox and Coleman both impressed me in their play. Much of that has to do with the fact that I wasn't expecting much...

It is amazing, Donovan took a completely green bunch of young men and has already turned them into winners, all in less than one season. It is living proof that teams can be built from nearly nothing when the coach knows what he is doing.

It is a shame, given what has happened to this team, I feel like a beaten man and go into each game expecting a loss. After the first SEC game, I predicted they would win only four or five games in conference, and it now is looking like a stretch.

They just will not play good, fundamental defense, failing to rotate to the ball while opponents nail three pointers. They play hard, but it appears they just do not know how or what to do.

Most disappointing is our free throw performance. The key word here is "free". Stand at the line, focus, and practice. That's all it takes to have success from the charity line. But, first and foremost, the coach must make it happen. There are absolutely no excuses for this team to shooting free throws in the 50 percent range.

There, I feel better now, if I don't get my wings clipped.

It seems like a great coach once said he could take his and beat your and then take yours and beat his..........

I could see Donovan doing this.....

And it doesn't help that we've gotten unlucky too. Having the ball fall directly in to their best three point shooters hands after a blocked shot by Gee with 1 second on the shot clock...

When that shot went down, I knew we wouldn't win. I think the team knew it too. I'm not saying they gave up, but when things start going bad for a team that has struggled... it's that much harder to turn it around.

It seems that, during second half play this season, if we get down by eight or nine points, we can never recover. We seem to hang in there during the first half, but just can't hang on during the last few minutes.

A. Grants name keeps coming up for different positions.A Donovan man with a good track record. My guess is South Carolina or L.S.U. will gobble him up.

When we get down by 8-9, we run down and jack up a 3 pointer two or three times, then we're down by 15-16.

I've been a CMG supporter for a long time, but if the basics aren't being taught, and it's time to go in another direction.
That is why those, like myself, have been frustrated for a long time. CMG's success came when his streetballers were talented enough to when the SEC title. That rarely happens. His elite 8 team got plum lucky and had the perfect draw in which to get lucky (extremely weak Stanford as a #1). CMG has NEVER made in-game changes well at all. If his plan doesn't work there is NEVER a plan B. Good coaches are always making adjustments. He makes adjustments when things are working to things that are not working. He does this most often on defense like going from man-to-man to a zone or vice versa when the other has been working fine. As a coach this kills me. Leisurely fans don't even notice it because they don't follow the game as closely as football. They just get frustrated because the other team starts scoring in a hurry. It's almost like he makes changes for change's sake not because of any rationale behind the decision.

I have never had anything personally bad to say about CMG. I love the fact that his players graduate. I just wish he had enough talent as a coach to help them excell on the court while they are here at the Capstone. Sadly, he has just never shown that type of talent while he has been here. That is simply my opinion. I truly wish I had a different one, but sometimes coaches, just like players, simply don't pan out.

Think if Southern Illinois beats us...Pettway doesn't make that last second shot to start the Elite 8 run. I doubt we would have CMG as the Alabama Head Coach. It is amazing how making or missing that shot had so many implications...Just my opinion.

I agree and while this has nothing to do with basketball, I've thought the same thing about CMS and the Prothro injury. A made/missed shot, an injury, etc. can have a lot do with the perception of a coach.
