"Defensive back Ryan Smith (5-10 175) of LaPuente-Bishop Amat, Cal., who was named freshman All-America on Utah's undefeated team in 2004 under coach Urban Meyer, is transfering to Florida. Smith, who will graduate from Utah in two weeks, plans to attend graduate school at Florida and will be eligible to play for Meyer with the Gators in 2006 under a new NCAA rule that allows a player with eligibility left to transfer without having to redshirt if he has earned his degree. Smith redshirted as a freshman and played two years at Utah so he has two years of eligibility remaining. "
(I know this is perfectly legal according to the new NCAA rule, but does anyone really think that Urban Meyer has the player's best interest in mind here? First, it's text messaging, and now this. One thing is for sure though, Urban Meyer knows how to push the NCAA rules to the envelope. You gotta give Ryan Smith props though for being able to graduate with two year eligibility left.)
