I mentioned this in another thread but the families of these athletes, many times, are vultures. They view "your success" as "my success" and demand to get their greedy hands on the money. If it were Nico's and Nico's alone, 2 million is a life changer. The fact that daddy was so adamant that he get more money just goes to show you what I am talking about.
With Michael Lombardi as the GM at UNC, I can guarantee he will try to get him on the cheap and sell him "you're playing for the greatest coach in NFL history". If he doesn't do that, he's not a good GM.

It is common knowledge that his dad is his handler. He had a brother that he mismanaged as well who was committed to UCLA and dad transferred him his senior year of high school and ended up making the kid ineligible.

I've seen some stuff on Instagram that alludes to his dad being the one behind all of this. Granted, it's social media, so take it for what it's worth. But when this type of money comes into play, parents normally get involved, whether with good intentions or bad. I know if my kid was a 19 year old football player getting $2.4mm per year, I'd definitely get involved so he wouldn't go spend it all on sour gummies and Dr. Pepper.
Teenage boys just aren't very smart. My 17 year old with some money in his pocket is like turning a monkey loose with a straight razor in a crowd of people. He has zero clue what it means to "waste your money".
Desperation can make you do most anything. UCLA is the current guess at a landing spot from what I’m reading.
