Honestly I thought the spots in the PSU game were worse than today. It seemed like every time we got near the 1st down marker they'd mark it a yard short and then do the opposite for PSU.

The PI call was awful, just beyond atrocious. The offsetting penalties were bad, but not horrible. It looked bad to us because we saw the replay in slow-mo. In real time it did look like Lester was the culprit.

There were some late hits that went uncalled, but there may have been 1 or 2 against us that didn't go called to. I don't think any of these had an outcome on the game.

There was also a time when the Arky DT was going full speed into the neutral zone when the ball was snapped, but no penalty was called. I thought that was pretty obvious too, but I guess not.

Truth be told, we don't throw a pick in the EZ, or if we RAN THE BALL on our first few trips to the RZ instead of pass pass pass, or if McElroy had gotten a little more air under his pass to Hanks down the sideline that ended up going for an INT, the score wouldn't have been as close as it was.

Fact of the matter is both teams shot themselves in the foot tonight, but the team with the championship pedigree/mentality is the one who showed up when it mattered most.

The PI call was made by a ref who had CBP right in his ear. I wouldn't be surprised if that played into it. Also, the late hit penalty was pretty lame. I thought Greg got hit late once on a roll out. He was right on the LOS and after he threw the ball a guy laid the wood. I did hear some boo's after the 4th and 1.

The block in the back call on Hanks was pretty weak too. The personal foul call on Lester was ridiculous, because he let go but was drug down by his face mask.
Hard to block a guy in the back and make him fall backwards ... but Hanks managed to defy the laws of physics! Watch the reply and tell me which way he goes.

Yeah but if you put your hands on a guys back, it's going to get called, doesn't matter if you blocked him or not. You just don't put your hands on a guys back.

Did Hanks block him first? I remember a replay showed someone else hit the guy as well. I remember Gary and Verne mention something about it being a double hit or something. That was a questionable call.

it looked to me on replay as though Hanks got his elbow in front of the guy to slow him down, but his body was behind the guy. I can't really fault the ref for that one.
That one could have been either way. But it wasn't egregious enough to call it, given the outright clip that Arky got away with before that.

I was really impressed with the adjustments we made in the 2nd half. The defense held them to 3 points, and Mark Ingram, not enough can be said about him. I think we beat Arkansas and the Refs today. I am still miffed in the first half we had our 1st down become a 4th and 1 due to a bad spot.

Arkansas did play a heck of a game. I wonder who will get the calls when Arkie and the Barn play?

Luckily the kids were outside when that happened, because I was screaming all manner of profanity at the screen. It looked like a couple of other officials were trying to convince him that it was uncatchable, but he wouldn't budge.
No kidding,i actually went in the garage and listened to Eli in my truck for a while after that.

two calls really stood out to me, the pass interference and the hit by lester. no way that was a late hit, he let go and had his face mask grabbed. the spots were what i'm used to from the zebras.

The officiating in this game was terrible !! I believe the win was inspite of the bad calls. I know it was a win and the Tide had difficulties on both sides of the ball today ,but the Tide had to play two teams , the ones in the red and the ones in the stripes. The comeback was amazing , but it really wasn't ; with Coach Saban and the Tide coaching staff i had a gut feeling they'd make the correct adjustments at the half . They had me guessing though . Good win team .:BigA: T.S.
