Question: What does this UGA/aTm game tell us about our opponent?

really?

so you are saying that evenw without a special teams collapse followed by a TO collapse this team has no reason to ever put up 39 points against an opponent playing for the 9th strait week? on at the end of a short week at that! You notice the yards they had this game?

btw i was rooting for UGA. But then again i root against most Big 12 teams.
No. I really don't think so. They got weaker as the game wore on. They got one last minute consolation TD, or it would have been only 2 TDs for them against one of our weaker defensive teams. If you see some comfort in their performance, well, if you like it, I love it...

FWIW: TAMU put up 471 yards, 2 INT, with 27:51 TOP against one of the worst defenses in the SEC. They put up 532 yards, 1 INT, with 31:33 TOP against the BIG 12's best defense. The total numbers are pretty similiar, except Texas could not stop the run, especially Jarrod Johnson. That doesn't take into consideration the short week/long layoff or rivalry factor, that's just raw numbers.

I think its telling about the Texas defense. Texas gave up 298 against Louisiana Monroe, 414 against Texas Tech, 311 against OU, 303 against Kansas, and 532 against A&M, to mention a few. These teams aren't putting up the points they should be against Texas because the Texas has came up with turnovers in crucial situations.

Then keep in mind the most Bama has given up was against Tennesee (341 and our worst game, defense got no help from our running game) and Florida (335). After that there's a pretty big drop-off. I mean we gave up 155 against VT.

In the five toughest games Texas has played (TT, OU, OSU, A&M, and Nebraska), the disparity between the yards of Texas and their opponents is 153...in favor of Texas' opponents. On the other hand, that disparity for Alabama against VT, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn, and Florida is 572 in favor of Bama...and I think most would agree we play tougher defenses. Not meaning to condescend on UT but it seems like a lucky streak to me, although to their credit they have won the important battles.

Comparing scores of games, even common opponents doesn't mean much. I think in bowl games that is especially true. It is however a means of comparing obvious athletic ability.

It tells me that Big 12 defensive stats are artifically inflated. Vonn Moss, who is the NCAA sack leader, was non-existant against an average SEC O-line. Most games are won by the guys with their hands on the ground. Jus sayin!!

I always tend to stop short of reading too much into things like this, but I did find myself asking the same question as Earle did during the game.

A&M lights up UT, and then can't score against what is pretty much considered a porous (aka "not so good") SEC defense...

Does it mean anything? Guess we'll find out.

Just wanted to point out that isn't the first SEC defense A&M has faced this year. Arkansas held them to 14 pts as well earlier in the season. Also don't forget UGA only had one Defense coach left, their DL coach after thier housecleaning. I agree though you probably can't read to much into the results. I'm still worried about UT! Colt McCoy is a dangerous QB, and in a championship game you have to worry about the QB.

I try not to look at one game in a vaccuum. Teams match up differently against different teams, and play better some weeks than other weeks. Also, you really have to take into consideration the time that each team has to prepare for a bowl game, which can even things out a great deal.

However, what struck me the most about the Texas A&M/UGA game is that I kept reading at the bottom of the screen how A&M has ZERO players that are potential NFL draft picks for next year. It really suprises me that A&M was able to put up the numbers they did against Texas a few weeks ago. With more talent, I think they would have pounded Texas.

If we show up hungry and ready to play, I see no reason why we won't win this game. Texas would have to get some turnovers and/or hit some big plays to beat us, ruling out a major Utah-like meltdown.

I can't resist posting this. This was by a poster on another site, after visiting the UT sites:

Those folks are completely unaware of what they have to do to even stay on the field.
They invariably:

1. Cite the media's "set-up of Bama as favorites" as a sterling success (motivation).

2. Invoke the 2005 win over USC (ad nauseum) as presumptive evidence of their dominance.

3. Hold up their D's "#1 vs. the run stat" (The same stat UF enjoyed until..)

4. Rest on the laurels of coach "Boom (expletive deleted)" performance vs. the Biggish-12

5. Refer to Bama folks with the usual litany of shopworn stereotypes (these are texans, remember).

6. Remind the world of their 7-0-1 record vs. the Tide.

7. Question the intellect of anyone who doubts their beloved strays.

Did I miss anything?

Actually, she did - Utah beat us last year in the Sugar Bowl, so we have no chance against a spread offense... :D

and we're 0-2 in BCS bowls while texas is 3-0

but about the georgia game. They looked pretty terrible in the first half but they came back strong in the second half and actually ran the ball.

FWIW, the Texas/aTm game was the 8th straight (unless George was actually playing) game for Texas. Nebraska was 9th. Our guys held Tennessee (who was coming off a bye week) to 10 points in their 8th straight. That's the same Tennessee team that waxed UGA.

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by the outcome of this game. If I recall correctly, the Big 12 got it handed to them last year by the SEC. Same results, different year. And oh yeah the National Championship game will not be that close. Not braggin just saying...Texas doesn't have a chance in Hades.

Just compare our rivalry game with Awbun and then the Gators!

Some things just do not compute; otherwise the teams seem to be up for a particular reason, etc and they blow 'em out.....

Texas will not be a push-over game......no way.

Preparation is the key, and the problems that UT had with their O-Line against Nebraska, well they will "shore" that up for certain if at all possible.

However, our D will give Colt McCoy fits, I do believe and that will be the key to getting him off rhythm throwing and then we will get him when he tries to run like we did Tebow!

Coach Saban will have the guys ready and not allowing them to become complacent, I do hope; otherwise it could/would be a long evening in the BCS Game!

If anyone can get Bama ready, or if someone's not prepared/ready for this game, then somethin is truly wrong with 'em.

I agree. In the first half, Georgia couldn't run the ball very much. On defense, they tackled very poorly and kept getting burned on the short passes just outside the first down marker, as well as, a couple of big plays.

In the second half, Georgia's secondary played very well, either knocking the ball away or almost intercepting it several times, aside from the two actual interceptions they did get. Also, on offense, Georgia running backs ran very well, pounding ATm's defense. It was like it was two different teams showing up.

I don't draw any conclusions from this game re the BCSCG. aTm ain't Texas. Both teams have time to prepare. Unfortunately our guys are contending with the flu bug again.

FOCUS! FOCUS! FOCUS! If our players do that I'm hopeful we'll be alright.
