fwiw, I am fine with my kids being there. It's just language.
Yeah, they're going to hear it, whether at school, scouts, TV/movies, or even church youth groups when the adults are away (trust me, it's happening). Just teach them what language you will accept in your house and how you expect them to represent themselves.

Oh, I'm old enough to not be bothered by it, and I'd not be surprised if ut chanted something worse - just saying it's sad that some of our fans do so with children around.

And frankly, I've been to a LOT of ut games over the years - they've never beat us when I was there. And as long as CNS remains at the helm,. I don't expect I'll hear it much...
I'm no talking about what they say, I'm talking about what we say when it's played.

Generally, I agree with you on this, but don't you think there comes a point in public situations where enough is enough? I'm not talking about folks "letting one slip" in front of the kiddies, but these guys that use that type of language with blatant disrespect and disregard for others, in a belligerent "I'll act however I want" manner are the ones that need to be put in their place at some point. Of course, most of the time those types have annoyed the entire group around them by that point.

That's fair, but that doesn't mean everyone feels that way.

One rather, huh, excited ut fan dropped a few choice words and was summarily shunned by virtually everyone around him as there was a youngish boy just in front of him.

It's simply about respecting other people.

I'm no talking about what they say, I'm talking about what we say when it's played.
Never heard anything bad.

Well I have 2 small children and I understand those people perfectly well. A college football game, especially an Alabama game, should be a safe, family atmosphere period. We don't want to be Baton Rouge, for goodness' sake. A mass chant like this, you can't do much about, I realize. But if you were near me at the game repeatedly and loudly using bad language around my wife and children, I'd politely ask you to refrain, maybe even twice. After that, we'd have a problem mano y mano.
So you think it should be family safe, but because of WORDS that the coaches and players use you would use physical violence in front of your kids?

Baffled.

I was at the game Saturday vs lsu. The added on parts, besides the normal drink beer and roll tide, were added by the students. I was sitting on the 40 behind the lsu bench and could not understand what they were saying. The person I was sitting with is a recent grad, and she said whatever the lyrics the students have added are new.

Two weeks ago everyone was complaining that the students were not participating as much as they should. I was proud of the student section on Saturday. They were the loudest and stayed the longest. They had the whole stadium standing and chanting.

I'll never understand people that get upset when they hear foul language at a game. It's football. Just listen to the coaches and players talking. Or lee corso, lol. A game like lsu vs Bama is no place for small children, imo.
I taught my kids what language is acceptable and what is not and even though my youngest is 23( and a student BTW) I still correct them from time to time. Locker room language is meant for just that the locker room, not in front of thousands of people. We as Alabama fans like have always prided ourselves that we are above the vile rantings of the other fan bases in the SEC. We will be no better than them if we allow this kind of bad behavior at the games. Buying a ticket does not give anyone the right to do or say whatever they like at a game.

Please, just keep that record intact by going to all UA -UT games.

Did I say I would punch anybody, much less in front of my kids? There is a such thing as having a "man to man" talk, in private, away from the public eye, perhaps with a security guard involved. As I said in a follow up post, I wasn't really referring to off-the-cuff cursing done in a moment of anger or frustration. However, I don't think it is too much to ask to have an atmosphere where I can reasonably expect to bring my children free from belligerent, repetitive cursing and the like. It's just common decency and respect for those around you.

EDIT: By the way, anytime I've seen these belligerent types get challenged to pipe down, it's usually the belligerent ones that want to resort to fisticuffs. Trust me, my (intentional) fighting days are long behind me, but I would defend myself if necessary.

Most if it's not safe for this board. However the cleanest and funniest is the little known. "Munch munch munch" response to "white tail buck dear, munching on clover"

I would think more people would be upset that they play Basket Case at games, and have for years.

Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me
It all keeps adding up
I think I'm cracking up
Am I just paranoid?"

I had the unfortunate task of explaining to my young nephew once that a group of fans close to me were being rude and immature when asked what they said and what it meant. Apparently they took exception, and felt they needed to reinforce the fact that they were being rude and immature with more rude and immature behavior wanting to fight. Since then I have been very careful selecting seats when going to games with youngsters at any venue including BDS. Some things never change, but I do think it is getting worse.

Mano y mano means hand to hand, not man to man. It refers to physical combat. In English we would say hand to hand combat.

Alabama fans can be so "classy" that they don't want to be rude and watch Alabama beat up on a lesser team. That's why they don't cheer loudly, sometimes, and leave early right? They're just trying to be classy?

The truth is, if you want the stadium to be a tough place to play, you want it to be hostile. And, you can't really be a hostile environment while sitting quietly in your seat trying to be polite. I've seen seen Alabama fans complain about Rammer Jammer.

Look, I don't like country, and I've looked up the lyrics that Alabama fans say to this song, and honestly... people are overreacting. It's a PG-13 chant, if that. I think Alabama fans spend way too much time worrying about being polite. Yeah, there's plenty of chances to be classy, and civil, but that doesn't mean you can't cheer for your team, or you can't chant or what ever. The stadium was literally rocking during "Dixieland Delight"!

Just look at this quote:
Kevin Norwood at a loss for words on the atmosphere: "It was just like, ugghhnnnnn. That's how it should be every week."

But, to see what some fans are saying, it's like oops, we messed up, the stadium was, for one game, one of the toughest places to play. That's not classy, we were chanting and saying rude things and that's not family friendly. Well, the notion of yelling so loud that the opposing team can't hear themselves talk isn't exactly polite, but it's still something we fans should try to do. I'll gladly take Alabama fans being less polite, if that means they cheer more loudly, and stay in their seat longer, and sing along to a song in the fourth quarter, etc...

Good post, Krazy. When I was in high school at Prattville, the stadium could be pretty loud. Julio struggled his senior season because the student section was yelling at him. The following year, I clearly remember some of my friends making an Auburn High School WR stop his drill to look up at the student section because of the taunts.

Luckily, I sit far enough away from the students that I don't have to hear it. But I typically try my best to tune on the song, anyway, and have absolutely no idea why we play it in the first place. I hate that song. We had a thread a while back that addressed this and Sweet Caroline, and to my memory, most of those who commented didn't like either.

The issue would be solved if they'd take it out of the rotation...
