When did you fall in love with bama football?

Sounds like "The Goal Line Stand" was big in alot of lives!! Same for me being 9 years old and it was amazing to watch on TV.

After that game my grandpa took me up to a sporting goods store on the Marietta GA square and bought me one of those 70's Alabama caps that I wore everywhere.

From then on I was hooked.

I have pictures of when I was little, and my brothers and I were all decked out in Bama gear. I don't remember watching any particular games, but I guess I have been in love with Bama football all my life.

I guess my history is odd. My parents and older brothers, one having attended UA, were all fans, as I was when I was small. However, by the time college loomed, Bama football had fallen on bad times and didn't really play into my college choice. It was career-driven. Had I decided to become an engineer, I probably would have gone to Auburn. (Older BIL was a grad and pushed it hard.) Since I decided on C&BA, it was a no-brainer. My freshman year, Ears' last, I think we won two games. We mostly went to games to drink. (It was hard to stomach the product on the field sober.) Of course, when Coach Bryant returned the following year, I fell in love with UA FB all over again...

I was 5 years old living in Tuscaloosa when the Bear died. I remember my dad taking me to see the funeral procession make its way through Tuscaloosa. He put me up on his shoulders so i could see everything. I remember people crying. I knew who the Bear was, but seeing everything made it important to a little 5 year old kid. I always watched and attended games with my dad after that. I now live in Florida, but I still call him during games to talk about what is going on. God has blessed me and I was able to take him to see the Tennessee game last year for his late Father's Day present. I'll always remember seeing his look of astonishment as Cody blocked the kick. It was my gift to him for teaching me to love the Tide. Thanks Dad!!!!!

I fell in love with Alabama during the years when Coach Bryant stopped by the house on recruiting trips. I remember him bringing his assistant Gene Stallings once or twice.

The Bear and my dad were fraternity brothers at Alabama. Yes, I am an old Tider. My dad helped all he could with recruiting in this area until he passed away in his mid-forties.

The first game my dad took me to was Auburn vs. Alabama in the mid-fifties when Fob James was an All-American halfback. I was not old enough to understand the intense rivalry but remember the emotions of Alabama fans. Those were years of Auburn wins over Alabama, and the Tigers whipped us something like 26 to 0. It was this way until a year or so after Coach Bryant was hired. Then, things turned around.

I fell in love with Alabama football when I was 6 years old - 1981. I had always liked them because my dad is such a fan, and I had the Sports Illustrated with the goal line stand vs. Penn State on the cover framed in my room, but I first starting loving them after my dad took me to see the 1981 homecoming game vs. Rutgers. I'm pretty sure I had been to games before this, but this one stands out for me because Joey Jones was my favorite player, and after the game, I drew a picture of him scoring a touchdown and mailed it to him. Not long after I received a letter in the mail from Joey Jones. It was a thank you note for the picture I drew that he had written on a page from one of his notebooks. At the time I thought it was awesome, but it means even more to me today now that I've been to school at Alabama and know how busy and hectic it can be - I can't imagine having football on top of all of that. The fact that he took time out of his busy day to send a 6 year old a thank you note makes him my favorite player ever, and that's what made me love Alabama football. :BigA::BigA::BigA:

I'm like a lot of people, I can't remember not being a Tide fan. Although I have lived in TN my whole life and my dad has always been a UT fan... The guy that owned the company my dad worked for and his family were Bama fans and our family's were very close. They were basically best friends. Somehow by the grace of God, they rubbed off on my brother and I and we have just always been fans. I honestly don't really remember my dad being a big fan of UT when I was a kid just like I don't remember not being a Bama fan. I guess he just worked a lot and didn't wear the funky orange much. So maybe it was easier for the Benward's to influence us because they were such huge fans. Me especially since they were like a second family from the day I was born... When I got to my teens it was often a struggle between pop and me. Nowaday's we don't fight about it we just root for our teams and deal with it.

I's just born that way, I'm pretty sure. So, I guess it would have been 9-20-1956.

It was the 1973 Sugar Bowl. I was 11 years old.

I remember the pregame hype to this game was immense, even way back then.

The game broke my heart, and I decided at that time my heart belonged to Alabama.

I was instantly hooked. It was over.

In some way I think I loved it before I understood anything about it. I just knew that when Alabama lost my dad was bummed out and that when they won he was really happy. I think my attitude was "I'm on dad's side, so I'm on bama's side, even though I don't know yet what they're trying to do or how this game works." The first game I remember following was the 85 iron bowl. I was 7. After Kiffin's kick, my dad threw me in the air and caught me, which I thought was awesome and my mom thought was a little too close to the ceiling. I've pretty much been hooked ever since.

Listening to the 63 Auburn/Alabama game on the radio with older brother. He was hand wringing and worrying because we were behind late.
Sure enough Bama lost 10-8 but I knew something was special. I was 7 years old. Listened to every minute of the 64 season and every Bear Bryant show.
They'd have to gut me to get the hook out.

It was a tide fan in the early 60's when I was about 6 years old. I remember getting Joe Willie's autograph in the senior bowl. I also remember going to Denny stadium in the 60's with my dad.
