Just a question but wasn't Coach Bryant set to be the AD when Perkins was hired... memory is fuzzy because everything else was focused on his death 26 days after resigning
I like the guy, but I think we have to take the words that come out of Maze's mouth with a handful of salt.As much as I don't like it, I'm preparing myself for Dabo. I keep going back to what Maze was saying about Saban hand picked the replacement himself. Saban and Dabo are Lake Burton BFF's right?
The problem is that things they like about Alabama football could be changing, and we need to minimize the damage. If they like Alabama football, they will stay! If they don't, I wouldn't want them.
Saban had already won a national championship in the SEC on the strength of recruiting and development so not really, no.Couldn't that be said about Saban with Shula's players...?
Stop listening to him!So the article yesterday from Joel Klatt seems to be playing out. Jimmy Sexton represents Saban, Lanning, Deboer, Sark and Norvell. All of those, other than Saban of course, have been given new contract offers over the last few days with the exception of Norvell, and I only say that because I have not seen anything on Norvell. So Klatt's speculation that Sexton would be in charge and slow play this hiring process for his clients' benefit seems to be accurate. Klatt predicted Deboer would be the guy, but maybe it falls to Norvell. It just seems sleazy if this is what is actually happening.
He was already HC and AD. Was planning to retain the AD.Just a question but wasn't Coach Bryant set to be the AD when Perkins was hired... memory is fuzzy because everything else was focused on his death 26 days after resigning
You’ve put me at ease.I am extremely confident in Coach Saban's ability to NOT become Pat Dye.
That is my point! No. Shula didn’t develop those players and frankly wouldn’t have. There’s a reason we had 0 draft picks in 2007 even after a year of Saban’s tutelage. Wallace Gilberry signed as a FA because Saban vouched for him. He carved out a nice career. Those who didn’t buy in were cut by Saban. No he didn’t use those terms but it’s what happened. Those who bought in were developed into good college players. Some prime examples- Cory Reamer, Javy (he tried to leave), JPW, Eryk Anders, Glenn Coffee, etc.
Thank you I thought that was what I remembered. Was there any talk about that being an hinderance to the program then... I see no difference in CNS having a job now with whomever coaches. He was already HC and AD. Was planning to retain the AD.
im willing to bet a lot of money that coach saban has never misplaced his pantsI am extremely confident in Coach Saban's ability to NOT become Pat Dye.
That's actually an interesting comparison.Couldn't that be said about Saban with Shula's players...?
I know tigers don't change their stripes. DeBoer, if he gets the job might be a great coach. But, recruiting is not what he's great at, it's never been what he's great at, so that part isn't really a mystery.here is the thing. You have zero idea of what is going to happen once a new coach comes in. I seem to remember posters seriously hating the hiring of Nate oats and many people thought Scott Frost was going to be a slam dunk at Nebraska. So it’s a crap shoot in non Nick saban hires.
Nope. But, he would be better than several names being discussed here.Do yall think Lance Leipold may be a consideration ?
Lane Kiffin on the other hand...im willing to bet a lot of money that coach saban has never misplaced his pants
That wasn’t Lane, that was JoeyLane Kiffin on the other hand...
A little history if interested - since it appears we have some time to kill...Thank you I thought that was what I remembered. Was there any talk about that being an hinderance to the program then... I see no difference in CNS having a job now with whomever coaches.
kiffin might not know where his pants are right nowLane Kiffin on the other hand...
Kind of like Jekyl and Hyde...?That wasn’t Lane, that was Joey
I think DeBoer wants out. He's losing Penix, his incoming recruiting class is not very good, he's losing his 9 six year guys (who not only contributed on the field but he valued their leadership).I know there are rumors, but it seems Greg Byrne is looking dead at Kalen Deboer. Being from the Pacific Northwest himself, I am sure Byrne can ease any fears a PacNorth guy may have about moving to the Southeast. That said, I think he sticks in Seattle!
