Don't count Austin out. He's a very good passer with a strong arm. He's just not a dual threat type runner. Mostly a drop back passer. He's been in DeBoer's system a while. CRG likes him a lot.I think Russell beats out Mack for Number 2
We might have another situation like Tua / Hurts. During his Freshman year, I felt that Tua was the better QB by the end of the year. But, Hurts had paid his dues, and was still a good choice until he had a bad game. We might have two really good QB's on the roster. Possibly three.I voted for TS to start. I think it's his time and he'll take advantage of the opportunity.
But, I only want him to start if he's the best QB in the room. Not to rehash what happened with the last QB, but CKD knows he's got to have the most capable QB under center and I firmly believe whoever trots out there next fall will be the one the staff believes gives us the best chance to win next year!
I will join the chorus and say I think KR will not sit by idly and accept he's not the one. He'll push the entire room. I think he's going to be our next phenom QB. And, if TS stumbles just a little, he's got the kind of talent to make an argument for himself.
Mack is not sitting around either, but I'll be pretty surprised if KR isn't the #2 on the DC next year.
And if the reporting of him adding 15 pounds is close to accurate that means he's not sitting around preparing for a year or two later to make a mark.
Young will have trouble leaping over Miller and Washington.Ty balls out! We go undefeated in the regular season. Ty is in the Heisman conversation. Mack and Russell get lots of playing time, because we average 40+ a game and the defense leads the nation in fewest pts allowed. Germ and Ryan 1000+ season. Young breaks out and rushes for 1000+. Punter only punts 1-2 times a game. OLine wins Joe Moore award.
I'm told Keelon has gained 17 lbs since arriving in campus. Hard to tell by looking at him.My gut says Ty is the guy and Mack is the backup with Russell pushing Mack throughout the season. But that's kind of a boring/chalky answer.
So, my more fun guess is that Mack wins the job. He has 3 years in the offense so should know it better than anyone else and I feel like DeBoer wants to get back to using his full playbook after last season. Then I think Ty would be the backup if he sticks around but if not obviously Keelon would be.
Despite his talent I have a very hard time seeing Keelon as the guy. He came in very skinny and can't possibly know the full playbook and I just don't think DeBoer will want to use a significantly trimmed down playbook again. I know he's talented but it's such a big jump to go from HS to College especially for a QB. I'd argue the jump for a QB from HS to College is significantly bigger than College to NFL.
That was posted a while back. It takes off one of the "reasons" he couldn't play as a freshman that some would offer.I'm told Keelon has gained 17 lbs since arriving in campus. Hard to tell by looking at him.
Daniels carried more weight than it appeared he did. LSU listed him at 210, and I certainly thought that was with a few pocketfuls of pennies, but sure enough, that's what his NFL draft/combine weight was also. KR is now listed at 192, so assuming that's not with a pocketful of change, he's still got a way to go before he's Daniels weight. I don't know that KR would *have* to be bigger to play because, I agree, there is way, way more important stuff than just raw size to being able to play QB, but getting up above 200 would make me feel better about him having to absorb hits and weather a full SEC season. That was posted a while back. He's probably about the size now of when Jayden Daniels was at LSU. I thought JD looked like he'd get broke in half a few times he got hit at LSU but it never happened and he took some big shots.
KR's size is the last thing I'd worry about. At this point, it's the muscle between his ears that will be the one that excelerates his potential playing time because all the other measurables are off the charts.
Hopefully, we don't need him or Mack because TS is ready and doesn't falter or get injured! If that's the case, the biggest mystery is who's more ready to be QB#2?
I agree, and think that's exactly what DeBoer and Grubb will do. It might help, but doesn't fully solve the problem. You could still have a guy just leave during the season to preserve a year of eligibility -- however "eligibility" might be defined anymore.Of course the competition will go all the way to fall camp. With the transfer portal, you are basically shooting your foot off naming a starter after spring in an open competition.
I got on NFL.com and Bryce Young was listed at 5’10” 204 lbs. I thought for sure when I first saw him that he would get mauled. What a player he was for us.
