At this point I really have no clue. There are a lot of good quality coaches who can win at Alabama and will, but obviously after Saban this group is split as to who is the fall back guy. I suppose whoever is hired we will all get behind in time however, the absolute only hire that would make me never to grace BDS again would be Cutcliffe.

The next Big/Huge/Enormous/Out of this World rumor is Bobby P. from Louisville. I know it's unbelievable, but there may be some truth to it?? Check out the forum at Tidesports.com

Personally, I don't believe it to be true.

He is my Christmas wish.

Good Morning (Mal Moore says) we have come to the end of our search for a Head Coach. Today I would like to introduce Paul Johnson. We know Coach Johnson will provide the necessary experience that has been missing at Alabama for sometime. (Goes on and on about Coach Johnson's accomplishments). Again here is Paul Johnson.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Jan 1/2 the announcement will come. Now that is my Christmas wish.

I have thought for some time that a big name hire was best for Alabama, a name that would put every one on notice that you better buckle your chin strap cause Alabama will be back. Now that appears not to be the case. If you think about the schools that have been successful over the past 5-6 years there were no big name hires. Tuberville and Miles came from OSU and OM two tradition rich football programs:rolleye2: and neither were exactly world beaters and had only marginal records. Yet, they have taken over programs and have had a great deal of success. Some of Miles success has to be laid at the feet of his predecessor, but he continues to win. Tuberville inherited a mess at AU from Bowden and it took him a while but now AU is winning consistently. Urban Meyer came from Utah after winning at Bowling Green, two more powerhouses. My point, I think, is that a good coach can win big time at Alabama, provided he is a good coach and hires an experienced staff who also knows how to recruit and coach. While most hold out hope for NS, surely Grobe, Johnson and many others being considered are as good as Tuberville and Miles at this stage in their careers. IMO it is the program that makes the coach, not the other way around.

What "puts teams on notice" is when you beat them on the field. Not by scare tactics of "look who we got you better watch out." With the scholarship limits creating parity not too many teams are "scared" of another team by them just walking out on the field parading a big name coach and their tradition.

But what does get people's attention is when before the game they are laughing at you and your tradition, making comments of "they're has beens" etc. then you get out on the field and beat them like a rented mule. That usually is what gets people's attention, not reminding them of how great you "used to be" or "gonna be".
