I have thought for some time that a big name hire was best for Alabama, a name that would put every one on notice that you better buckle your chin strap cause Alabama will be back. Now that appears not to be the case. If you think about the schools that have been successful over the past 5-6 years there were no big name hires. Tuberville and Miles came from OSU and OM two tradition rich football programs:rolleye2: and neither were exactly world beaters and had only marginal records. Yet, they have taken over programs and have had a great deal of success. Some of Miles success has to be laid at the feet of his predecessor, but he continues to win. Tuberville inherited a mess at AU from Bowden and it took him a while but now AU is winning consistently. Urban Meyer came from Utah after winning at Bowling Green, two more powerhouses. My point, I think, is that a good coach can win big time at Alabama, provided he is a good coach and hires an experienced staff who also knows how to recruit and coach. While most hold out hope for NS, surely Grobe, Johnson and many others being considered are as good as Tuberville and Miles at this stage in their careers. IMO it is the program that makes the coach, not the other way around.
