Question: Will Bama return to the “Game Manager Quarterback” in 2023?

TB is a downgrade from what we had but who isn’t. But he shouldn’t be treated as a guy that is a guy that is just here because he couldn’t make it at a lower P5* school either.
Agreed, but I do not see anyone treating the guy as an inferior player around here. We are all optimistic, at least, that is what I have seen. We have been on a tear at the QB position and spoiled to think that the next guy up could continue the trend of the last three. Hopes got deflated in the Spring, we were lucky to get a nice transfer portal guy to mitigate the situation and here we are. Frankly, I think we have ZERO to worry about because whoever wins the job will be the one taking us to the playoffs which I fully expect to happen.

Thank you!

Our past three quarterbacks are currently starting quarterbacks in the NFL, not backups, STARTERS. That has to be very, very rare.

He seems slow in his reads - if the first or (maybe) second read isn't open, he's far more apt to pull the ball and rely on his legs, á la Hurts when he was still underdeveloped as a passer.
This is what I see. Insane arm strength and obviously a great runner, but he really struggles with Freddie Kitchens syndrome so when he tries to throw a touch pass it just floats and doesn't spin and becomes terribly inaccurate.

If at this point in his career he can't throw a simple crossing route, I'm not sure it'll ever happen.

FWIW, Jalen Hurt's never had these type of issues. His arm talent was good. He did struggle some with accuracy but he could vary his speed and throw decent passes. He just couldn't stand in the pocket and read defenses until he finally sat behind Tua in 2018 and worked on becoming a real, pocket passer.

Milroe at practice makes insane throws that generates a bunch of oohs and ahhs, but he can’t hit a guy on a slant on a consistent basis. There were literally times where he threw interceptions to a linebacker that never moved from his starting position. Simpson’s knock was he kept trying to show off his arm to compete with Milroe when there was an easy slant or out route that was wide open. Simpson trying to hit a deep ball or that “Hollywood” type throw is the reason for most of his issues this spring.
Your comment on Milroe: this is why I don't think he'll ever play QB at Alabama

Your comment on Simpson: This reminds me of one of his highlights where he's running to this left and he jumps in the air to complete a pass toward the sideline. It looked really impressive, but was it necessary?

It's asinine to consider he could be the starter at Bama if he'd rein in the Hollywood stuff and just do what he needs to do to successfully run the offense.

I had to explain to a Bama friend of mine who was drinking the Stephen smith Kool-Aid that if TB or TY asked the receivers to go train, they wouldn't say no. I also find it weird that some bama fans I talk to will make such a big deal about Milroe going down to south Florida because of chemistry reasons, And then in the same breath downplay TB having a prior relationship with Tommy Rees. Having a good relationship with your team is important don't get me wrong, but having a good relationship with your OC is also very important.
I wish Stephen would just go away. He just makes our fanbase more divisive and dumb. See the “Pruitt leaks” as an example.

As for Finebaum… he usually pulls quarter truths and presents them as facts to stir the pot.

A lot of our fans, especially on other sites, are dismissing Buchner way too quickly. I think people just don’t want to accept that a guy who was set to be the backup at ND could come in and start immediately.

There’s no shame in losing out to Sam Hartman though. ND’s staff was actually upset Buchner decided to transfer because most expected him to be the starter next season when Hartman leaves.

I agree with just about everything usaf92 has said. I’ve heard Buchner has impressed in the few summer workouts they’ve had so far, and some think he already looks the best of the 3.

As for Milroe & Simpson, I haven’t given up on them. The job won’t be won in summer. Milroe needs to take a big jump IMO. The staff took Buchner knowing full well that Milroe might transfer, so they recognize it too. I think they are still optimistic about Simpson’s future but didn’t feel good enough to bet the ‘23 season on him.

I don't think that is it at all. I don't think anyone has a problem with a transfer QB. The dude just hasn't looked very good in limited action and didn't look good in their spring game.

I don't know much about the offense Reese runs, but from what little I saw there's a lot of RPO-type stuff that would seemingly be a large part of any offense that Milroe would run. Perhaps TB would be a backup to Milroe if indeed Milroe wins the starting job? Just spitballing here.

I don't think Milroe, in his limited action, has been any better than Buchner was at ND. I still see many fans optimistic on him. There is nothing wrong with that either. Just comparing the two.

I see a lot of potential in Buchner personally. Excellent athlete who has the talent to be an effective passer. He plays the position with an urgency and has shown the ability to work through progressions. Really good footwork and can throw with touch.

The main issue for him has been turnovers, and I THINK that will go away with experience. He hasn't played a full season since his junior year in high school.

He may not be elite this season, but I think he has the tools to give us what we need to be a championship team. But who knows, maybe he doesn't end up winning the job. Just my thoughts.

Yea I think the bigger issue is Ty. I don't think most people expected much from Milroe but most expected Ty to be the guy. Buchner coming in just puts some doubt that Ty can be the guy.

Buchner definitely has some tools and definitely looked better than Milroe has in live games or ever really but that's not saying a whole lot.

Yeah on the other boards some bama fans have thrown fits about it.. Erik Evans over on RBR had one of his psychotic episodes when the TB transfer was announced saying there is some sort of "conspiracy" between tommy Reese and Tyler Buchner that is pulling the wool over our eyes. Roll Bama Roll was a fun Blog until Vox took over and that idiot was allowed to write a large chunk of the articles over there.

This is the kind of stuff I’m talking about. I haven’t really seen it here, but it’s rampant on a few other sites.

I don't even understand tbh. What possible conspiracy could their be. I'm on one other board and haven't really seen this but maybe I just ignore it. I do read RBR from time to time but find most of the contributors annoying nowadays. I used to find some of them funny but agree they're more annoying now

Honestly once the recruiting boards started trying to say they had insiders galore i just limited myself here and TI. People like Smith make me leery on anyone attached to a recruiting service. It’s why I’m not as over the moon about Pate as many here are.

Yea largely agree. I joined On3 and don't mind it so far but I was never a fan of 247 and all the 247 posters are now on On3 so that might be short lived for me. Some of the staff at On3 are solid but some are pretty annoying.

Pate is okay. He's better than many but I don't think he's brilliant or anything. Sometimes he annoys me a little and I'm not sure why.

I used to be on TI but despite the info that pops up there the website design annoyed me too much so I left lol. I don't know if its gotten better at all.

I honestly only have it for the other sports. But the lack of moderation makes me question the 40 bucks I pay into it. Yeah Rodney isn’t really great with how to design or modernize a website, but the majority of his clientele is in their late 50’s to 70’s who have been there since day 1. Not very inviting for new comers.

Pate plays towards the “traditionalist” crowd and it is why he is popular. There have been several times when he is dead wrong about intel but 95% he won’t correct it. Unless you are totally a member of “Pate State” then you can definitely see 247 pushing its product through him and influencing what he says.
