Will Kerry Murphy have a realistic chance at playing in 2007?

Just saw the specs on Kerry Murphy and good night this kid is big!!! His bio indicated he has amazing strength and quickness off the ball. Being that we desperately need size and strength will this push the need for Murphy's services to the forefront?

I don't see how he doesn't play. We do not have many or any true defensive tackles. When was the last time we had any interior pressure?

He has a real tough road to get eligible. He may very well end up at JUCO, or hopefully, Hargrave.

However, if he somehow gets eligible, I could see him getting some spot duty if he works his tail off. He certainly is an impressive enough physical specimen.

My opinion he is not ready in the strength department for the SEC, so if he does qualify I expect a redshirt year. I do believe he has amazing athletic ability that if properly coached could be a game changer in the future. This is the kind of player a strong hand like Saban can turn into a first rounder if the kid wants it badly enough.

Not really. He just needs to be in good shape (or good enough shape for a NG). You need a really big nigh immovable dude at the NG in a 3-4 to control the interior of the LOS.

Of course...he's got to get his grades straight before we start talking about his weight.

I think he has a realistic chance of playing since we will be lacking at defensive tackle a lot next year. He is one big kid at 6'5'' 315 lbs. I think he could stand to lose a little weight.

the Hoover coaches have always said that if KM can get motivated, he is an animal. UNfortunately, that also applies to the classroom. I agree with RTO, it doesn't sound good at this point.

I'm optimistic that our coaching staff will make the most of what we will have on the field next year. KM needs to take care of his business if he is serious about playing big time football - I wish only the best for him.

If playing in front of 1,500 fans for a juco or prep school as opposed to a Crimson sea of 90k+ while his former line-mate(Chapman) is out on the field doesn't do it , I don't know what else could . Wherever he ends up , he needs to hit the books , the weights and a ton of laps or he might eventually return to TitleTown only to become a reserve OL instead of a star NG .
