Will there be a National Championship game for 2020?

Well, it won't be decided by a CFP (I don't guess) so there's always a one-year divergence. Hoped I'd never have to hear "mythical NC" again.
Could you imagine a scenario where the CFP committee gets together, say June of next year and decides based off playing the tapes of the years games and decides who is worthy of the final rank.

I don't think they will, but it wouldn't be much less controversial than the some of the AP, UPI and Coaches NCs in the pre-BCS period.

Looked across the board? They gave up trying...What the other three do now matters nothing to them short term.
Ohio State is really the only team that likely had a "chance", but watch the protest from that whole league if there's still a format/vote for determining a NC if the Big 12, ACC and SEC play.

OK, thanks. I overlooked Jess' take until now. Some discussion below his article. Lets expand on that here.
You actually are making my point with your tongue n cheek. So if only the ACC and the SEC survive. Could there actually be a defacto championship played between the two conferences? Would that be allowed by the NCAA? If not, can you imagine the speculation of who's the best?
That would be up there with 1966, in terms of controversy. Central Florida will be thumping their chests for a year.

At this point, I just would like to see the SEC be able to play its championship game in Dec. If JUST THAT happens, I'll take 2020's result of no NC and just be happy I lived thru it.

imagine the irreparable harm and ridicule if the SEC goes it alone and a bunch of people get sick and die.
Both the SEC and the ACC have medical clearance form their Medical Teams to play...This is about litigation now though...always has been, but it's #1 right now IMO...

I've already been told by a Buckeye fan that any attempt to crown a National Champion this year will not be legit because the B1G won't be in contention.

I really wanted to share that Tweet I saw the other day about all the time a B1G team has been a part of the BCS or CFP in about the last 20 years, but I resisted.

Well, here's a Buckeye fan calling that bunk. I hate that the B1G folded its tents this early. Those who actually play the games get to decide the championship.

If you read the OSU boards, the consensus seems to be that they got screwed by spineless leadership. With some wanting to join SEC. 🤠
I am not even sure who voted for OSU. Drake left in June and Johnson has not started as his replacement yet. If Gene Smith voted - well, he is lucky to still have a job. He would take the safest option every single time.
