Let's not let this turn into another thread about student tickets, PLEASE.:eek2:

As for the south endzone, I'm all for it and I think it'll really complete the whole look of the stadium. I mean, it's beautiful now, imagine how much nicer it'll look with that end closed in.

The breeze will be demolished, but I'm willing to bring my own handheld portable fan and suck it up.

I would like to see the expansion done as well, but I don't see it being done after the upcoming season. Can't remember where I read or heard it, but seems that I saw recently where Coach Moore was being interviewed and when this topic came up he said that a feasibility study for a south endzone expansion had been commissioned but that it would more than likely be up to five years before any construction would actually start. I could be wrong, but I could swear that I read that somewhere recently....

Here's the current top five:
1- Michigan - 107,501
2- Penn State - 107,282
3- Tennessee - 104,079
4- Ohio State - 101,568
5- UCLA (Rose Bowl) - 92,542 (not on campus)

If we hit 102k, we'd have the fourth larget stadium (currently, BDS is the 7th largest with LSU being 6th at 92,400).
The Rose Bowl shouldn't be there since it's off campus. It should be replaced with UGA's Sanford Stadium which has a capacity of 92,746.

this must not be true or one of you would have said it:

I heard that when Saban got there he looked the expansion asked when the other endzone would be expanded. 'They' said probably when we win another SEC championship, Saban replied 'go ahead and call the architect'

I guess that was a rumor or yall would have heard that ????
I posted that here. Coach Thompson said this at the coaching clinic.

recent architectural studies have shown that Jordan-Hare cannot be expanded to 100,000 due to its foundation. seismic interaction with the 14 feet of cow dung and toilet paper under the stinkhole would cause the stadium to sink at least 10 in the east corner which would rip the duct tape holding that pile of refuse together. on the brighter side, this would then open up a worldclass facility for awbie's favorite sport of cross-country cow riding.

CPF's south end zone is pretty much been expanded to capacity. His north endzone still has lots of room left.

The north end zone expansion added 8,320 seats. If the south end zone expansion adds the same, capacity would be 100,458.
I guess that's right...for some reason I was thinking that the stadium gained 10,000, but since we had 83,818 prior to the expansion that was exactly the 8,320 you menioned. Regardless, having over 100,000 is still a dream in my book!

It will also be the most comfortably stadium with that many seats by far. Can you imagine what capacity would be if we used UT's seat size? Man, that would be about 120K considering everyone only gets 1 cheek for a seat!;)

Coach Thompson spoke a lot about Coach Saban. He said that CNS is "jacked" about being here. He said that he and CNS were talking back in 2001, and the Bama job came up as a topic. CLT said it was the best job in America, to which Coach Saban's response was "IIIII don't know about that." CLT reiterated it is and that if they had someone like you (to CNS) they would be dominate. Also in the conversation was a big name to another SEC school, who replied "He's right, it is the best job in America." And now, he's here.

He also spoke on CNS first tour of BDS and how he was looking around intentively. CNS is big on the "psychology of performance, etc" so he's analyzing things a lot. He looked at the north expansion and backed to the south, and asked the "head stadium guy" (CLT didn't know who) how long would it take to get that end the same. The guy chuckled, "probably when we win another SEC title." CNS' response? "Tell the architect to get started." Now, CLT was telling that, so I'd like to think it's true, but man that fired me
up.

I'd certainly believe it's possible. Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial already holds 85,000 and they have LOTS of room to expand.

take a look at it from the air.

also, as much as I hate to say it just looking at Jordan-Hare they also have an awful lot of expansion room, more than we had at Bryant-Denny before our latest expansion. It wouldn't surprise me at all if you didn't see plans to enlarge their stadium come about very very soon.

i get what u saying, but the students need more tickets. they (or i should say we since i am a student) dont need 25k tickets, but close to 20k would be nice. all i know is that kids that grow up fans there whole life (and more times than not students at colleges go to the college they grew up rooting for) and the incoming freshman get HALF the home game tickets. thats messed up. i am not trying to start a student fight again cuz those threads have been already posted in the past, its just that each fall students get screwed over and for the amount of money our parents shell out to the school we deserve something in return.
First of all, I'm not as far removed from my student days as some might think. I do have a degree from UA that was granted this century. Therefor, I certainly "feel your pain" and understand what you are saying. However, for the money your parents shell out, you do deserve something in return. You deserve the opportunity to attend class at a fine institution of higher learning and earn a degree which will serve you well throughout the remainder of your lives.

Now, I certainly realize and fully understand that college football, especially in the SEC and more especially, at Alabama, is a major part of the college experience and it played the single biggest part in my decision to attend UA. I know if getting student tix had been as big a problem in my days as a student, I would have felt exactly as you do. You must realize though that your tuition does nothing to support football. Your student activity fee does, in part, go to support UA athletics, and is responsible for students receiving tickets at student rates. In light of that, when you realize that there are thousands of names on TidePride waiting lists just itching to spend hundreds--even thousands of dollars per year just for the chance to purchase tickets at full price, then you should understand why the student section will never be expanded to hold more than a set percentage of stadium capacity.

Personally, I would like to see the student section continue to have it's percentage as it is now and then give the students the bottom four or five rows all the way around the stadium. That would do a couple of things. First, no one wants to pony up the donation and full price for tickets on those bottom rows because you pretty much have to watch the jumbotrons to know what is going on on the field. Second, those students occupying those seats would stand throughout the game. This would result in the lazy fat-cats having to get off their bums every now and then if they wanted to see what was happening on the field. This would at least help give the appearance that more of the fans are into the game.

On another sub-topic: I don't understand the concern about parking. The farthest I've ever parked for a game was when I was a kid and went to a game with my Dad. We parked down on River Road (now Jack Warner Parkway)--and this was back when seating capacity was only 60,000. There are many more parking spaces now. There are multiple parking decks, now and more parking lots that back then. I've not missed a home game in over twenty-five years and, since that time as a kid, I've never parked farther away than Central High School. Most of the time, I have parked in the central campus area between Hackberry and 9th Ave. and between the Library and the Ferg. When I still lived in Tuscaloosa and wanted/needed to beat a hasty retreat, I was back home on Rice Mine Rd less than 10 minutes after cranking my car. However, most of the time, my plans include hours of post-game tailgating on the Quad before even thinking about cranking the car and heading home. I always thought tailgating was invented as a means of passing the time while waiting for the traffic to thin out after games end.

Success generates interest. In our case, the promise of renewed success has generated interest at levels never before seen. Demand for tickets exceeding supply, on both student and non-student levels is but one problem this generates...but what an awesome problem to have. Also, parking and traffic problems are merely growing pains. Again...great problems to have.

My understanding is that while the architecture would allow expansion, mother nature will not - one of the enzones sits atop an underground river which will prevent any future expansion.

Of course, that ignores the fact that there is no actual demand for more seats at the barn...

To be entirely honest, I could care less what they do with their stadium but I had actually never heard of an underground river preventing future expansion so I did a little google search on it. I didn't manage to find any information on any such problems with their expansion but I did find several articles about expansion rumors from last year some of which mentioned that architectural firms had submitted designs but that Auburn wasn't interested. That coupled with the tremendous expense they are taking on for basketball I wouldn't expect them to be doing anything soon. However, one article I found mentioned that they could close just the north endzone and expand the stadium to 100,101
