Would CNS Have Done Any Better This Year than CKD with the same roster???

We went from slow decline to a clear step down, the question is whether or not DeBoer knows how to step back up. Lanning is doing fine, Sark is doing fine, Kirby is doing fine... it's not impossible the question is just whether or not Alabama got the guy that knows how to do it and I have my doubts given his over-reliance and over-confidence in his quarterbacks.
Im beginning to think this is one of those “I’m married to a point so much that I will never consider anything else”. First you came on here saying he was a horrible recruiter and a Tiger never changes its stripes. But yet here we are with a top 10 recruiting class and we kept Ryan Williams. Now it’s this guy is lucky and has an over reliance on quarterbacks yet Sark and Lanning do too and are both 0-2 vs Kalen DeBoer. Lanning would drive Alabama fans insane with his crazy risks in key moments during games

I mean this seems more like your “Nate Oats is a mediocre hire” take after you learned we never went after Billy Donovan.

Once again you're focusing on outcome, not the process that gets you there.

I'm not suggesting CKD is equal to CNS or that Bama hasn't taken a step back.

I'm simply saying there was obvious decline for the last few years of Saban's reign. If you really believe 2023 Bama was on par with the previous NC teams Bama fielded, then I've no idea what to tell you. I guess we'll just agree to disagree.
If Alabama fans were being honest then they would realize that in no position group on offense were we a top 10 group compared to the last 18 years.

Culture is more important than raw talent most of the times. Michigan was far inferior talent wise entering the Rose Bowl but they were by far the better coached and more focused team that day… and we are talking about Harbaugh vs Saban.

Saban was 1 play away from playing for national championship last season with same Milroe that played this season
Remember though we were also 1 play away from missing the playoff last season when the 4th and 31 miracle happened at Auburn. Had that play not happened we would have missed the playoff in Saban's final 2 years and we'd be in a 3 year drought now.

I've been waiting on someone else to bring up this "almost forgotten" fact. It took the "Milroe Miracle" to even get us in the playoff last year. It was a 1 in 100 play that we made.

It's so easy to forget how bad this team was last year. I think someone said we were basically just a handful of plays being 7-5 last year.

Kevin Steele and the defense are the only reasons we didn't finish 7-5 or 8-4 at best in 2023 without the DC change. I don't even want to imagine how bad our record would have been with Golding still the DC in 2023.

"That place is haunted" - Saban

Fortunately it worked out in our favor last year

At this point I think there's no question the team has a better result with Saban.

The issue isn't just the disruption either, sometimes DeBoer's teams just were not well coached and the coaches were not well prepared.

For example, sending out two players with the same jersey number against Vanderbilt (cost Alabama the game), or not even having the right cleats for the Alabama players against Michigan (also might have cost Alabama the game).

These are the sort of mistakes that were pretty much unheard of under Saban because he had an extremely high attention to detail. This is why he never lost the sort of games DeBoer lost this season.
It makes you wonder if DeBoer considers these things or is unconcerned

I'm not sure what to say, but I don't think anyone expects there to be another run like we had with Saban. I don't think the current landscape and the 12 team playoff is conducive to that kind of thing happening for anyone not even CNS. I still don't have an issue with CKD in his first year. You seem to state the obvious and I'm not sure what your position is on the topic. I don't think CNS would have done that great and it has been obvious with his tolerant position on things like "LANK". He knew it and he hung it up! Long live Nick Saban!

Remember he quit the Dolphins to get out of the realm of coaching millionaire players with big egos.

Not many minds really understand all the variables as well as Saban did. People got upset when he complained about fans leaving early, some basically telling him to shut up. He was concerned with anything that could influence the outcome of games, and fans leaving early could. Why? Because it didn't look good to recruits he had at the game, and even if he lost just one single recruit, that could negatively influence the outcome of a game.

That's how he viewed things, every tiny detail matters and you never left them to chance. I don't know if DeBoer fails to consider all the variables, or merely if he isn't the workaholic or taskmaster that Saban is and doesn't demand adherence the way Saban does. There is no question though just looking at his resume he doesn't have that kind of laser sharp focus.

He does seem like a legit big game coach though, but really those are two different things. Preparing for a few big games a year is not like the ability to avoid all those potholes along the way that can take you out.
