Would CNS Have Done Any Better This Year than CKD with the same roster???

Are you considering the drama/cancerous attitudes he would have had to deal with had he coached this team?

Did he deal with them very well in 2023?

Notice I'm asking questions.

But I think you are thinking of CNS without thinking about the context of the question. You said you'd bet your life he wouldn't lose to Vandy or OU. Did you watch this team play much this year? 😁
Even with all the dysfunction last year, we were 1 play away from playing for nc which we probably win against an undermatched uw team

You're basing your opinion on wishful thinking not facts

Yes, no, maybe. Replacing a DC and having to find a second receiver since Bernard wouldn’t be on the roster are huge issues that would have to be addressed.

But I agree with @crimsonaudio that not having 30 days where teams have a free buffet on our roster is a huge advantage. But idk if Saban staying would be better for our future in the long run. His choice of recruits and coaches was getting progressively worse.
I have heard Bond was leaving no matter what so yeah, we would need a receiver or 2 that Milroe could ignore.

This year sort of reminds me of when Major Applewhite was the OC under Saban. We had trouble getting the plays in and the offense wasn't consistent. I remember Saban on the sidelines being frustrated with the offense. It proved Applewhite wasn't ready for big time football at that time. I think the same thing with Sheridan this year. I still say the staff's inability to make half time adjustments, especially on offense, really concerns me.

Just look up Sheridan's resume as an OC. This was a predictable result when a guy had one of the worst offenses in college football at his previous stop. It does remind me a lot like Applewhite in terms of both being kind of rushed hires.

One of the biggest indications of how things will go is if DeBoer is willing to make changes or not to his staff. This is not an Alabama football level staff, yet... the question is will he turn it into one.

The reality is we're no longer feared in the SEC and teams know they can punch us in the mouth and beat us. Any "respect" we'd earned over the years under Saban is now gone. DeBoer has to create his own respect and re-establish any fear we once had under Saban. Because right now, we're a mid-tier SEC team that no one fears.

If he didn't learn a million lessons this season and doesnt make changes he'll be a 9-3 coach at best but more like an 8-4 then will be fired after year three.

I'd be willing to be that Sark would be our coach right now if he had!
That's like expecting lightning to strike twice in the same place at the same time

We got lucky with timing landing Saban and we reaped a harvest like no other cfb program ever has and ever will

We did. And I greatly appreciate it. Never in a million years did I imagine we’d get something better than the Coach Bryant era.

And even if his timing on leaving was just a bit off, he didn’t run the program into the ground a la Paterno or Bowden. But into today’s NIL/portal paradigm, the program is still in grave danger of being run into the ground despite Coach Saban’s best efforts.

I think Saban jumped off because he knew the NIL/transfer portal was about to take the program into a nose dive. He got out at the perfect time for him and his legacy. I enjoyed the last 16 years but am coming to terms with what the future will more than likely look like.

Caveat: CNS has CKD's same roster.

Remember the drama CKD dealt with this year was already there. Somebody will say, "CNS wouldn't have allowed JM to return as QB if CNS would have returned." Maybe, maybe not. I also realize we might now lose Downs, Sayin and others to the portal if CNS returned.

But, the "rule" for this discussion is is if CNS had the same exact roster as CKD, including JM at QB, and he coached in 2024, does he have a record any better than CKD this year???
Without question!

When one only looks at results it's easy to feel as you do.

Anyone with eyes can see the decline started years ago, regardless of outcome.
There's still a lot of daylight between this season and last.

Clearly there was a decline, but during that decline the team was still for the most part vying for a national championship. They still very nearly won in 2021 and if not for the center getting the yips, 2023 could have ended differently as well (no, I was never afraid of that Washington team).

We went from slow decline to a clear step down, the question is whether or not DeBoer knows how to step back up. Lanning is doing fine, Sark is doing fine, Kirby is doing fine... it's not impossible the question is just whether or not Alabama got the guy that knows how to do it and I have my doubts given his over-reliance and over-confidence in his quarterbacks.

Saban was 1 play away from playing for national championship last season with same Milroe that played this season

Is that your definition of decline?

Coaching took an obvious major step back this season. Ask any educated football person that isn't a Bama fan

When we go 8-4 next season and miss playoffs again, you'll understand better

Once again you're focusing on outcome, not the process that gets you there.

I'm not suggesting CKD is equal to CNS or that Bama hasn't taken a step back.

I'm simply saying there was obvious decline for the last few years of Saban's reign. If you really believe 2023 Bama was on par with the previous NC teams Bama fielded, then I've no idea what to tell you. I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

ETA, drop the attitude.
