Your window on the world? - Part 1

For a little perspective on how far behind we are on rainfall south of B’ham, this was my neighbor’s pond/dock on Saturday. He was doing some repair work. Normally this time of year, it is at near full pool, a couple of feet from the top of the deck.

Finally got enough rain to get the water table up. Springs upstream are flowing and, with two inches of rain Monday night, pond is filling. Still about 4 feet or more from full pool but with rain forecasted Friday, I suspect it will reach capacity by the weekend.

Couple neighborhood streets getting re-paved today. Including the side street my house is on. This morning I pulled my work truck to my other driveway and got out before it hit the fan.

I think they paved over a city water meter right at the corner in the 2nd photo right by that stop sign...lol. I pointed it out to the crew when I got home just now but it didn't seem to generate a lot of interest. Personally I'm glad it's covered up now. The asphalt around it kept getting broken up and every time the city came out to repair it, their repairs lasted about a week until the next big truck drove over it.

I know the feeling. There is a chronic leak from the water main down the street. Basically leaking enough to weaken the pavement but not leaking enough for the water works to “tear up the street” to fix it. So it gets patched, which last about 3 months until it breaks up again to form a pothole. So it goes on….and on…and on.

Okay folks….started my pond restocking this morning with a dozen coppernose bream I caught from neighbor’s pond. May add another 6-8 later. I’ll get these through several spawns this year to produce a food source for the handful of black bass I’ll put in this time next year.
