Your window on the world? - Part 1

This is close to blasphemy... but our daughter has been accepted at Notre Dame and they had an admitted student weekend. She hasn't accepted yet - we're waiting on the best NIL deal between ND, Ga Tech, and Bama 🤣 ... and possibly a few others we'll find out about this week.

Here was my view for lunch yesterday:

I will say that everything about ND as an institution, campus, etc. is incredibly impressive. I did not participate in any of the cheers (and even threw in a few GO BAMAs when they say GO Irish :) ) We also went to their women's hoops game vs. Ole Miss yesterday, too, and I appreciated that nearly everyone mentioned football and school spirit in their talks over the weekend. Much unlike many of the other "elite" schools she has visited during the last 2 years.

Not my window on the world, unless you count facebook, but it's notable. I've never seen this photo before. The USS Hornet heading out of San Fransisco with Doolittle's Raiders.

Ted Lawson who flew the mission and crashed on the coast of China wrote the book Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo on which the movie was based. I must have read the book ten times as a kid. I am still enthralled by the thoughts of this heroic mission. If only the Hornet wasn't spotted and the planes forced to launch 400 miles further than planned. I have read that the Japanese knew it was the Hornet who launched the raid and targeted her off the Solomans. Wonderful photo that I have not seen before!
