The barner boards are ablaze .

.... someone like, say, Bill Oliver???

I was attending the University when Brother left for Auburn. I remember the feeling of betrayal and hatred. Others on here may have a better take on the situation than I do, but my pain has dulled with the passing years, and I now consider Brother Oliver to be a Bama man. I think he loves Bama and Coach Bryant, and I doubt that ever changed much.

I would bet that Willis still loves Auburn, even though they hate his guts at the moment.

Oh, and even when Brother left us for Auburn, I never felt like "the sky was the limit" for Terry Bowden. I think his limit was somewhat lower - around 4'-10".
I suppose, but remember that Brother was an assistant at the barn back in the '60s, when he came to Bama. He was an assistant at Bama twice, and the barn twice.

That may have been but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that he did not have a signed contract! Again, assistants contracts are yearly and there is no way he had a newly signed 2009 contract...hence, he wasn't employed at Auburn!

Verbal agreements are rarely binding as they are usually worded as an "agreement in principal"; which means that there are a few issues that remain.
Not that I care about seeking permission(irrelevant) or not but , I think they stepped past that point once they wrote him his 1st new paycheck at his newly agreed upon salary . Not positive . Anybody ?

One thing that everyone needs to do is step back and realize - the coaching profesion is a business. When Brother Oliver went to the barn, he did what he could to make them successful, but don't think for a minute that he changed his heart - he was and will always be a Bama man. And remember this - Coach Saban is our HC and will work his heart out trying to make Bama successful, but in his heart, he is not a Bama man. Just because Willis is a coach for us now - deep down he is still an Auburn man.

That is what gets me about people talking about this coach or that coach being a "mercenary." ALL coaches are mercenaries. They will coach where they can benefit the most personally. Does that make them evil? Of course not - their profession is a business. That is very difficult for Joe Fan of any school to come to terms with. Their HC does not bleed the team colors like they do.

One thing that Willis and Oliver have in common - I don't think that their move to the rival came without a reason. We know what the reason was with Brother. I would imagine that Willis was not happy with the situation currently with Cheezenip, still felt loyalty to CTT, and saw an opportunity at Alabama he felt would benefit him. Nothing more, nothing less. The barners are taking this personally, and they need to realize the reason for CJW making this move.

I read that they extended his contract through Jun/Jul 09 timeframe, which in my view would make him an employee....oh well, who cares......I bet that he is an employee right now though:)

Gee! The barners here at work sure are quiet again. Lots of long faces... What's up? :biggrin2: :biggrin2:

Tidehawk, have you read the CNS book called "How good do you want to be"? I ask because we all know that CNS was not raised, born, bread, played or whatever from LSU but his book sends a strong message to me. That message was that for his time at LSU, he bleed purple and Gold and to this day still has strong ties and a heartfelt connection to that program. My point is that, yes it is a profession but regardless where the coach is from, he can develop a strong connection with program that he currently works for. I for one hope that CNS writes another book one day and I get that he feels the same way about our beloved Tide as he felt for the coonarses down yonder:)

Makes me wonder if coach Thompson went to UcheaT on his own or was asked to seek other employment to make room for coach Willis.

JMHO I think Steele leaving was a given with the way the coaching titles were adjusted after last season but Thompson leaving was a surprise to CNS.

From an AU board...

I had heard other schools knew what plays AU would run. If there was a leak on the staff... possibly jw, then I would LOVE for the proof to come out, and embarrass him & anyone else involved into a shameful, national spotlight.

They hire an offensive coordinator that has sold his "system" for years to coaches all across the nation and it never occurs to them what that could entail. Wow...those AU fans are a little slow.

God love 'em.

So "Lady in Red" called this last July? Man I don't believe in coincidences. She nailed it to the month.

I think it's pretty obvious that thread was edited in order to get the barners worked up and it worked perfectly.

Ahhh, now it makes sense, thanks for the insight. It wasn't obvious to me because I am "challenged" with respect to these things but it is nice to see that we have many on our side who aren't ... I LIKE IT!

Exactly. Yet, it took the posters on Scout's AU board almost 5 pages of posts to figure it out....and some still think it was legit.
