The barner boards are ablaze .

This is my favorite...

Your sources suck, because it isn't going to happen. Rumors always start at rival schools. Its about the 5th time in the last year that I've heard that phrase.

Bobby from Homewood started the run on that one back in January of '07 :rolleye2:

This is like musical chairs.

LSU - yea we got Chaves from Tennessee
Tennessee - yea we got LT from Alabama
Alabama - Yea we got Willis from Auburn
Auburn - Waaaah someone stole my chair

Lol this is almost as good as the football. What a year this has been.

I love seeing the Barn in turmoil but it has happened so much this year it is almost getting old. I want to see UcheaT take a little punishment; but I guess that will have to wait until SEC football comes to Kiffin.

:BigA: RTR!

Actually, the 60-day guy was told to get with the program. For the last several years, a PLOI has been promised "in three weeks." :D

Maybe the "inquiry" being referred to was something along the lines of,
"Dear Alabama,
How do you succeed in football? Inquiring minds want to know.
Love,
Auburn"

Sure would be fun to have a youtube video of CJW decked out in BAMA gear giving everyone a big "ROLL TIDE!"

Hey AU! How ya' like them apples?

I attempted to feel just a smidge sorry for them; couldn't pull it off. Been chuckling for some time now; Coach Willis' move is just the latest chuckle-inducer from the plains. I have a couple of young friends who are students there, one a HS classmate of my son's. It's very hard to not talk noise nor to just laugh at them. It's fortunate for our friendship that I don't see them very often; don't think they'd take well to me going, "so, how are things in Auburn?" and then busting out laughing...

First of all, Willis leaving Auburn can't be investigated because he wasn't an employee of Auburn technically. Technically he was fired! Don't forget...Chizik himself came in and informed ALL assistants that they were not being retained. That gave him permission (regardless of whether or not he was still being paid by them) to talk to anyone he wanted. Also, I think the poster who said that assistants don't need permission was correct anyway. Their contracts are technically year to year.

If you can imagine a guy who went through school at Alabama, played at Alabama, and then Coached at Alabama... leaving to go to Auburn, you might understand that Auburn fans are slowing realizing that the sky is the limit with CNS.

I'm pretty sure he was employed at AU.

Gene Chizik did not go far to name the first member of his coaching staff. The new Auburn coach announced today that James Willis was retained from Tommy Tuberville's staff.

.... someone like, say, Bill Oliver???

I was attending the University when Brother left for Auburn. I remember the feeling of betrayal and hatred. Others on here may have a better take on the situation than I do, but my pain has dulled with the passing years, and I now consider Brother Oliver to be a Bama man. I think he loves Bama and Coach Bryant, and I doubt that ever changed much.

I would bet that Willis still loves Auburn, even though they hate his guts at the moment.

Oh, and even when Brother left us for Auburn, I never felt like "the sky was the limit" for Terry Bowden. I think his limit was somewhat lower - around 4'-10".

That may have been but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that he did not have a signed contract! Again, assistants contracts are yearly and there is no way he had a newly signed 2009 contract...hence, he wasn't employed at Auburn!

Verbal agreements are rarely binding as they are usually worded as an "agreement in principal"; which means that there are a few issues that remain.

Willis is an Auburn man who coaches for us now. I would be more than surprised if he didn't end up back on the AU sideline, and sooner rather than later.

Considering the way TT was treated, and his own uncertain immediate future on the Plains, who could blame him for jumping to a more stable position for a better salary and the chance to work with a "name" head coach?

Maybe we should be a little thankful that Kiffin somehow overlooked Willis in his search for recruiter talent.

I see your point about the lack of a new signed contract and get what you are saying as far as some entity not being able to investigate. Seems I've read on the AU boards that he was still collecting a check from AU though. It was something about him not wanting to give back the severance pay he received even though he never missed a paycheck or something to that effect.

Willis was not initially retained. Matter of fact, he was even given severance pay, then when recruiting bogged down even more, he was rehired. They even had the gall to ask that he return the severance pay, which probably has a lot to do with him no longer being a staunch "allbarn man." There is also talk that his pay was below the new hires too, which undoubtedly lessened any sense of loyalty he might have still felt for that cesspool on the plains.

This stuff is better than any soap opera, maybe ESPN could take it and run with it. Call it something like "As The Barn Burns" or "As The .... Tumbles." :PDT_tit::PDT_vis::PDT_kap:

Looks like a disgruntled Auburn fan has already gotten a hold of his wiki page. Now his name is James "Benedict" Willis according to wikipedia. The meltdown on this will go on for awhile I'm sure.
