I think the patton ship has all but sailed to florida or lsu. I'm still holding out for Richardson and Ambles, but I would really like to get Da'rick Rogers if he is going to qualify.
I don't believe our staff is all that high on Patton. No doubt he is a talented player but we just have guys we like more on our board. I think they really like Patton as a return man but maybe not as much as a receiver.

I would love to round out our WR with Richardson and Ambles and call it a day.
Richardson does worry me a bit. He grew up an Auburn fan, and if they were doing well he's probably a guy who they would get. However, obviously that's not the case, and we are recruiting at any extremely high level, so that really helps our chances as well. I still hold out hope for him, and I think he's a great prospect either way, but I do worry that he might be one that gets away from us.

As for Patton, I'm not really sure how high he is on our board. He's a really small guy, and I'm not sure how that plays with us. I think he'd be a great fit at a Florida or an LSU, but I'm just not sure that he doesn't give us anything we don't have already, and at any rate I don't see where there is very much utility to be found in our offensive schemes for a 5'9 and 160 pound player. I'd like to get him just because of his speed and because he's from a key recruiting area, but I'm not sure he's a big priority right now.

All in all, though, we do have two wide receiver commitments, and only room for a couple of more. I'm sure we'll get a couple of more great ones, but I just don't think you can necessarily say with Richardson and Patton that they are automatically ours because they are top in-state guys who we want. I could pretty easily see Richardson going to Auburn, and Patton going to either LSU or Florida while getting relatively little interest from 'Bama.

Obviously our staff likes him if he's got an offer, but I wasn't all that impressed with Richardson from what little film I saw. He's got great size and decent straight-line speed, but otherwise looked kind of stiff. JMO.

are we still gonna get keenan allen?

I think he's still high on us from what I've read. But I think we were looking at him as more of a Safety. But if we end up getting Demarcus Milliner, Jaylene Watkins, Jarrick Williams, along with Nick Perry. I could see either Keenan or Watkins going to offense. But I would guess Watkins over Keenan. Not to mention, I think Blake sims is going get a shot at QB, but I definitely see him ending up in the secondary. And then there is Lamrcus Joyner who is coming this weekend, he'll be a hard pull out of florida though. And don't forget Johnathan Mckinght.

I guess what I'm saying is yes, Keenan is still high on us, but which side of the ball he plays on probably depends on who all else comes to play in the secondary.

We should. He can play receiver or safety.
Just to add to what was said earlier, I don't think anyone has any serious doubts about whether or not we get Keenan Allen. He's obviously very high on us, and a lot of people think he might even be a silent commitment at this point. I don't know that for sure, but I don't think it would surprise anyone if that turned out to be true.

However, I actually doubt that Allen ends up at wide receiver. I may be in the minority here, but unless we really miss out on a lot of safety prospects, I think he might start out at corner. He has the speed to play there, the only concern is that he might be a bit too tall, but from what I've seen on him I'm not overly convinced he's the 6'3 that Scout.com bills him to be.

And speaking of Markeith Ambles...

He was actually in Tuscaloosa last week for the first scrimmage, and he continues to have nothing but good things to say about us. It'll come down to Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, I imagine, but it's too early to say right now. You do have to like our chances, though.

Also, he is reporting a GPA of 2.9 and an 18 on the ACT, so if that is even remotely correct, there shouldn't be any concerns about him qualifying academically.

And remember UGA hasn't offered Ambles yet. They are waiting to see how his academics pan out but our staff has been on him hard all along. I really like our chances with Ambles.

What this selection says to me is that it is one more evidence of what separates Saban from other recruiters. The end result of Saban's recruiting process is a team with chemistry. This player has something that Saban saw in the camp, an intangible, in addition to ability.

Very good point. Looking forward to following his senior year. Any chance he graduates and enrolls early?

A few odds in ends in this post....

Re: Ambles

Grades aren't the real reason UGA is waiting to offer. Supposedly, it is because of some off the field type stuff.

Re: Allen

I don't know if we lead as big as we once did, if at all. The distance card is being played by family and Clemson.

Re: Carswell

I want to see more film, but I've watched the ESPN footage twice now, and I like what I see.

I heard the same thing about Allen. I also heard he had tried to commit before and was told to hold off by the staff. Could be we might not lead as much as we once did and at the same time he is not as high on our board as he once was. Could be wrong but it would make sense.

Word on Tidesports.com is that Ronald Carswell won MVP at the Atlanta Tournament/Combine over the weekend and Scout is saying he will get strong consideration for a 4-star. Can anyone with a scout membership confirm this?

According to the article below from Bama Mag Ronald Carswell was the top overall performer at the Atlanta Scout.com Combine.

Scout Combine Review - Atlanta
Wide Receivers

The top overall performer at the Atlanta Combine came from this position and he just committed to the University of Alabama. Ronald Carswell traveled up from Westside High School in Macon, Ga. and it was worth it for him.

We all knew he was a solid receiver, but he looked much more than that on Saturday. After running the 40 yard dash in 4.52 seconds, he put on a show against the defensive backs.

It started at the line of scrimmage when he made it difficult with his quickness for any defensive back to get a hand on him. From there, he had corners on their heels before his route running ability. After that, he created a lot of space between him and the defender giving the quarterbacks plenty of room to hit him in the open field. Carswell helped his stock tremendously on Scout.com with his performance inside Hallford Stadium.

It's true.

The Atlanta Combine drew over 215 players, and had some very impressive prospects there. The place was loaded with guys destined to be four-star prospects, and even a few five-stars like Alec Ogletree. To be short, it featured many of the top 2010 prospects in the southeast.

Nevertheless, Carswell stood out above the rest, and apparently there was little argument over Combine MVP. He ran a solid 4.5 in the 40 to start things off, and just wowed everyone in the drills. None of the corners there could get an effective jam at the line of scrimmage, and he was easily getting separation all day. I also read some quote from other players talking about a couple of acrobatic catches that he made.

This combine performance alone is probably going to dictate him getting a fourth star on Scout.com, and I fully expect that other schools will really start picking up the recruitment of him. I imagine Saban and company will continue to recruit him very hard. He was a pretty big find by our guys that flew under the radar, but after this performance everyone knows his name.

And to think there were LOTS of posters on various boards that doubted the staff when we got this guy. And of course the Barners had a ball laughing at the fact his only other offer at the time was from ECU.

When will people learn to stop doubting CNS and staff? RTR.:BigA:

With the Barners, if you can believe that Chizik is building a dynasty, you can believe anything...
