Yeah I agree with you. He looked much better when he settled down in the 3rd quarter. Pretty amazing after being thrown into a situation like he was. I put a lot of blame on our offensive woes in the 3rd quarter though. The defense was getting worn down because they were out on the field so much. I still contend that if we could have went down and scored early in the 3rd it would have been a back breaker. We just couldn't get anything going and got predictable.
How many passes did Gilbert complete to someone not named Jordan Shipley? Not bashing him, but I think Jordan was the "amazing" one. I guarantee you there was some kind of half-time exchange between him and Jordan in which Jordan said something along the lines of "Look for me every down, I'll be doing everything I can to get open." Jordan stepped up big time in that game, he really put the team on his shoulders. I think he knew he had to take the pressure off Gilbert by performing extraordinarily well and he performed extraordinarly well. IMO he took a lot of pressure off of Gilbert, as much as he possibly could.
IMO, and this may come as a shock, Texas would have done worse had McCoy not gotten hurt. Shipley wouldn't have had that monster game, Colt wouldv'e gotten discouraged early when he throws and interceptions and finds out that he hasn't "figured out" jack sh*t. Taking a few hits from trying to run on our BIG defense would have shooken him up mentally; he was expecting so much, he was ready for a Cinderella moment, I think he wouldv'e broken easily...well he did anyway, but mentally I mean.
I wonder when they're going to make a shirt that says "The Alabama Crimson Tide...ruining quarterbacks' future since 1993..." Toretta, Tebow, Colt. We were the first time those guys failed big and one of them never recovered...we'll see what the others do.
