I don't know if I'd call it elite. Miami has won as many national championships as Texas has in their program's history in basically one decade. Would you call them elite? They're the third most "elite" team in their conference, the Slightly-Largely-Than-Average-Sized 12. That conference is no where as great as the SEC, and Bama is far and away historically the greatest team in the SEC. Not saying I don't respect Texas but they are no where near our level, and if their fans think so...well they are just on something.
That depends on what criteria you use. Oklahoma leads them in NCs 7-4, but Texas leads them all-time 59-40-5.

Nebraska leads them in NCs 5-4, but Texas has a 9-4 edge all-time, 8-1 since the Big-12 was formed.

I believe that the reason that people here are so "trigger-happy" is that we're really tired of the implication that Alabama only won the game because McCoy was injured: a "victory by technicality" it is inferred. There seems to be an effort by some journalists and other fanbases to devalue Alabama's victory and the McCoys are, probably unintentionally, assisting them in their efforts when they make statements such as "would have continued to (carve them up)" and "fixing to complete every pass".

I wonder how Colt McCoy and dad would feel if Sam Bradford had made similar statements about the UT-OU game this last season?

If Kerry Goode did not get hurt against Boston College and Doug Flutie in 1984, we would've won... Now there is a situation where someone was "carving up" the other team... :)

McCoy knew what Bama's defense was going to do just like he knew how much time was on the clock at the end of the Nebraska game!

I do think that Colt and Brown acted classy after the game, and I don't blame Colt's father for believing his son would have won the game for them if he hadn't got hurt. Being a proud father is not a crime, even if there is little to base your beliefs on.

I have talked to a lot ot UT fans. Most of them will will say that the game is different if McCoy stays healthy, and I agree. I believe McCoy makes the game more interesting. The one fact that the average fan does not realize is how good Coach Saban is at making adjustments during half time. I doubt there is any better in the game!

he!!, we can go back and claim big chunks of the 2003 and 2004 seasons due to injuries ;)
I've often thought about how the '04 season would have went if Bama hadn't lost the entire starting backfield. I can't remember any team having that much bad injury luck.

The "carving them up" statement doesn't bother me. My single concern about the video and especially the Darius/McCoy tackle, was whether the tackle would be portrayed as an "unsportsmanlike hit". Anyone who has seen the play knows that it was a perfectly legal, legitimate tackle. Its a regular occurance for the ball carrier to be chased down and hit from the back in the tackle. In the video, Colt's father said.."he took a shot from the back". While this was a true statement, its plane mean spiritedness to imply that it was a cheap shot. I suppose his father could have made the "shot from the back" statement as an excuse for his son's injury, or, it could be (and in my opinion more likely) an attempt to portray the hit as a cheap shot, which of course, it wasn't. I am not sure what the father's intention was when he made the "shot from the back" statement, but I am completely sure that there was an agenda behind it.

Exactly. I think we get a little trigger happy sometimes - just looking for someone to say something so we can jump down their throat. That 5 second clip doesn't mean Texas is a bunch of whiners anymore than Auburn holding the lead in the Iron Bowl means they were the better team. LAUGHABLE!

I guess it's obvious when things are going great for us. There is nothing negative for us to complain or worry about so we pick through the news, or lack thereof, to find something or someone to dissect!

:biggrin2:

Texas is not Auburn. Texas is one of the truly elite programs of all time and that 5 second clip of a proud daddy shouldn't make Bama fans act like Texas isn't one of the great programs.

I am so proud we have gotten back to the top where we belong, but I enjoy it more when we are gracious winners.

You should go back and look at some of the posts made by UTw fans on here in the month before the game and immediately after the game. I used to have a lot of respect for UTw and their fans, however that admittedly small sampling has unfortunately changed my viewpoint.

Plus, the statements in the video about carving us up and knowing what we were going to do before the snap and fixin' to complete every pass were made immediately after the injury. The TV commentators doing the Colt Watch in the locker room repeated them during the game. They were also repeated on the broadcast after the game. My thought then, as it is now, if Colt knew so much why didn't he check out of that option play?

UTw fans of course do not want to consider the parallels to their game with OU and Bradford.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree here. Texas has actually won more all-time games (845) than Alabama (792). Yes, our total is a bit lower than it should be because of forfeitures and vacated wins, but even if you add those back we don't match Texas. We do claim 13 national titles to their 4, but Texas claims more conference championships (31) than we do (26). There aren't too many teams that can approach our bowl-win total of 31, but Texas is close with 25. And let's not forget that prior to the BCS National Championship Game, we were 0-fer against Texas in 8 previous tries (well, actually one tie). To say that Texas is no where near our level is a gross miscalculation. If we're looking at the all-time picture, they are quite arguably on our level. I think their fans are quite justified in considering them an elite program.

I realize I probably sound like a Texas homer here, and I can assure I'm not. I just think we can be fans and still be objective when looking at other programs.

I actually understand where Colt's dad was coming from. He was bitterly disappointed and at the time of the injury UTw was playing better than Bama but, as someone said earlier, CNS makes terrific adjustments during the game. Additionally, UTw has a lot of recent experience with success, while it was still new to our players. Remember how we ended 2008 with two losses? Remember how the team came out in the second half believing they had already won the NC and nearly let UTw back in the game?

I still wish Colt had played the whole game. I said as soon as Colt was out, they would use it as an excuse for their loss. Bama initially used Marcel's TD at the end of the first half as an excuse to coast. Bad form.

Ain't that the uncle or cousin in Napoleon Dynamite? Hilarious.

Some of you guys are a little outta line here I think. It is a bitter pill to swallow to finish out a career like that on the sideline watching your team lose. And that's his daddy talking. He acted like any of us would if it were our son.

Give 'em a break guys. The McCoys and the Longhorns are classy and we shouldn't try to make em sound like they ain't.

I have to disagree.
The guys from Texas seem to have a different definition of 'Classy' than we do.
I would have felt differently if Texas had said: "It was a tough game, we had a critical injury and it hurt our chances to win. ALSO...
We could not find the right Defense to stop the Alabama Offense. We could not hold them to 3 and out." A statement like that would have reflected reality and would have shown a little class. Instead Texas's comments sounded like they were written by someone from the 'Lee Co' API team...
