Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn/ Reports are that he has not faxed his LOI in

that is a teaser!! details?
Sorry not meaning to be a teaser. I just know that at 12:54 he was on the phone with staff. The kid is very confused. In the end I don't think he buys the barn bs but this has been a very very crazy year in the world of recruiting. It would be very fitting that he switch to Bama with all of the underhanded recruiting that goes on at the barn.

From the Washington Post on the CK situation"
Recruiting Insider - Cyrus Kouandjio having second thoughts, Bama back in the picture?

"I don't know what to say," DeMatha Coach Bill McGregor said. "I don't know if it's a lot of drama about nothing or if he wants to change his mind."
Even this morning, Kouandjio had yet to decide between Auburn and Alabama, where his older brother, Arie, redshirted this past season. McGregor said he advised Kouandjio of the need to reach a decision that he was happy with. "Whatever you want to do, follow your gut and you'll be okay," McGregor said.
Part of Kouandjio's hesitation with Alabama might be a reluctance to compete with his brother to be the Crimson Tide's left tackle. That was a key point of Alabama's recruitment of both players, the opportunity to play the cornerstone position of the offensive line. That worry, though, might be unnecessary, McGregor said.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Arie becomes a center or guard because of his size," McGregor said. "The one who is most likely to be left tackle is Cyrus because of his size. And there is no guarantee he is going to be the left tackle. They all have to compete for Alabama or Auburn."
McGregor plans to revisit the situation with Cyrus Kouandjio later this afternoon, after the lineman retreated to the International House of Pancakes with his teammates who did sign the NLIs.
"I'm as surprised as anyone else right now there are second thoughts," McGregor said. "Once a kid says it [in front of the camera on signing day], that's usually it. It's signing day, I've never had this happen before. You say you're going there, that's where you're going and everybody is happy."

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn/ Reports are that he has not faxed his LOI in

I am no expert. But I would anticipate the family will get together and think this through and make a decision. I would anticipate the coaches have done all the talking they can do. I cannot see the coaches having a great deal of input at this point into the decision making process. I am not sure whether they can call or not but I would anticipate that to be moot at this juncture. What is there to say that hasn't been said by the coaches. I think this will be a family matter going forward.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Ya think Cyrus got checked out for the rest of the day. Excused abscence. :)

WaPo reports that he is at IHOP with his teammates who did sign NLIs today. His coach has also said that he plans to talk things over with CK later this afternoon.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I honestly think he is going to have 2nd thoughts either way. If you're familiar with the Myers-Briggs, I think CK might be a "perceiver." He seems to be of that personality type, especially after this drama unfolded.

Hopefully he's not a "feeler" too.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn/ Reports are that he has not faxed his LOI in

How does wanting the kid to make the right decision "jaded"? Is it "jaded" because I think HE may not want to come to Alabama? I've coached football, granted youth football (ages 8-9, 11-12 yrs old) but parents are parents. I've seen it. They want what's best for their kid SO BAD that they've "got it all planned out! You're going to go do this and this and when you get here you're going to do this...." Yet the entire time the kid doesn't want to do it that way or go that direction.

So yes, I am passionate about CK making the decision that HE feels is best for HIM. Because ultimately everybody wins. He goes where HE wants to go and Alabama doesn't have a player that knee deep into it wishes he would have went with what HE wanted rather than what others wanted. If HE wants to come to Bama I want him at Bama. But if he doesn't then I don't want him here because both parties turn get shorted.

You seem pretty passionate about your opinion... Honestly you are starting to sound a little jaded.

At this point, whatever he ends up doing will be the best decision for him whether its Auburn or Alabama. I dont know how works in your family but in my family and most everyone else's that I know you dont make these kind of decisions in a vacuum.

I bet Spencer Region wishes he would have thought his decision through better about 12 months ago...

Much better! thanks!!

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Out of all the recruits, Cyrus was the one I wanted the most. I am old school and believe games are won on the LOS. I'm not sure how to react to all this. I am selfishly wanting him to come to Bama, but if that isnt his first choice... well you know. In the end, he needs to do whats best for him, what he wants. I really hope he realizes his opportunities here with the Tide, but I wont hold any ill will if he does not. I really cant imagine what its like being the #3 overall recruit in the nation...

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I'm glad I'm not an 18 year old making a huge decision with the whole nation watching ! I think I could be confused as well. Hope he listens to family and makes the right choice for himself.

Got that right! It's gotta be a tough decision for any 17-18 y/o kid.

If he is that torn about the Alabama/Auburn thing I wish he'd go to UNM!

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I typed earlier in the thread but it got swallowed up in the meltdown........

No hat..........he looked dreadfully unhappy, unprepared, agonizing........no smiles..........no relief.........totally scared.

Usually kids that look like that are dealing with one of three things:

1. Guilt
2. A Girlfriend
3. Afraid of disappointing their family

I'm guessing it may be all three......... possible scenario -- went to visit AU without the parents.........met a hot girl..........fell in "love" -- and wasn't thinking clearly. Then he actually heard the words "Auburn University" come out of his mouth, and then his brain snapped back to reality.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Contract law does not apply here.

Not sure how it wouldn't if he were 18. Regardless of what the NCAA's requirements are, if he signs any document that involves a promise on both sides of a reasonably equal value the promise would be legally binding and a court would have a very difficult time striking it down if one party wanted to hold the other to it. And IMO that's regardless of whether the agreement itself states that it isn't binding, because the clear expectation of both parties at the time of signing is that it is binding (parties' expectations, assuming they can be proven, always trump boilerplate language on a contract).

The only way the NLI (and NCAA) would get their way and bypass contract law would be by forbidding the school from suing to protect the school's contract rights. That approach sounds ridiculous at first, but given the NCAA's stance on basic constitutional rights like free speech (disallowing fan tweets, etc.), it's more than likely. Basically, the student athlete retains his rights while the school's right are subject to the NCAA's wishes as long as it wishes to participate in NCAA sports. Not quite as communist as the NFL system, but not exactly an American-style market either.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

no inside source or facts to back this up, but my gut feeling has been that he has some reservations about competing with his brother (maybe he's afraid he'll push his brother out of a starting spot) and Auburn capitalized on that. I think a lot of other schools that he might have considered backed off because they thought he was an Alabama lock, but as we know, Auburn does not back off (in fact, they seem to really relish going hard after kids who have made verbals to other schools). I hope for his sake that he takes his time, regroups, and goes somewhere that both he and his family can be excited about.
