Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I smell something really fishy from the Plains. First the Calloway kid was a BAMA commit, and went to the barn. Played with the sheep, and decided that he was a Barner. Then his parents talked some sense into the child. Now this kid goes to the barn, and apparently meets the same sheep. Falls in love, and now his parents are telling him to think about this. I just really do not understand, unless there is something going on down there that they do not want the parents knowing about.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Yeah, I agree, "advice". I think it would be in CK's best interest to listen to his parents. But at 17 years old, with two full paid scholarships from two of the best football teams in the SEC sitting at your feet. Both of which if he bust his butt at either of these schools will provide him with an opportunity to have a pro career. I think this is a decision (that with the ADVICE of his parents) he can make. He's not a toddler. He doesn't have to be spoon fed on every decision. Of course this is an important decision but one I think he's old enough to make.

Parents often know what is better for their children than their children do, so it would be a sign of wisdom if CK followed his parents advice over his own feelings. If this path is followed, kids often looking back appreciate their parents advice.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Did you read this in a forum or was it quoted in a report?? Link?????

believe he read it on a forum, someone said they saw it on twitter on a message board somewhere. In other words a friend of a friend of a friend of a guy of a knome of a roomate of some annonyomous person.

Its possible he visits one the other or both before he makes us his mind again, until then he is as uncommited as he was this morning, though we know the aub talk wasnt all a smoke screen as was popular belief. I wouldnt expect a decision today and doubt a visit to either will change his or his parents minds, it may all come down to who blinks.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Is there any kind of news as of late.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Hi, Tide Fans! I'm new here, but I've been a raging Tider since John Forney was calling the play by play on games featuring the legendary Joe Namath.

About Cyrus, I will only say that I have an 18 yo daughter who is college frosh. She is brilliant - an Honors Scholar. But sometimes I think she ain't got walking around sense. I expect it is similar for this young man. All teens are highly impressionable and can get confused easily. In kids that age, their frontal cerebral cortex is not yet fully developed (this occurs around age 22-26). That is the area of the brain where reason and decision making takes place. This is why one should proceed with great caution when seeking wisdom from a teenager. Mostly they have no idea what they want and wisdom is a foreign concept. The fellow's behavior surprises me not in the least. I hope he comes to Tuscavegas, but I will be happy for him whatever he ends up doing.

By the way, the brain comment is totally true, not some idle conjecture, for whatever that is worth.

God bless the University.

Andrew Bone Tweets: "Don't expect anything else to happen today with Cyrus."

ETA: Leather Helmet, welcome and I agree with you completely! You are correct about the brain development, too!

Poor Andrew doesn't understand. It should have read:
"Read message boards over the next few days until Cyrus decides for all sorts of entertaining predictions, theories, conspiracies, and philosophies on recruiting and parenting."

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Can we get Cyrus for another visit to Bama?

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I will say this about a young man making a decision like this as opposed to his father (or mother) making the decision. Being a football player at a D1 (or BCS) school is a big time committment. Mentally, physically and emotionally. Beyond the classroom studies and people pulling you in different directions whether you are an AA or a 3rd teamer (you are a Bama football player and people know who you are) the committment to weight training, training table, film study, position meetings, conditioning drills, spring drills, summer 2 a days and the 4th qtr in the fall you better make sure you KNOW where you want to be because if you don't YOU are going to fail. If the kid is having second thoughts about the Barn he may not want to put the effort in that is required. If he is undecided on Bama he may still not put the effort in needed there. The dad nor mom is going through all the requirements that the son is by being a football player at a place like an SEC school. Do they have his best interests at heart, better believe it but they don't get yelled at by CSC while on the bench press, they don't get yelled at by CNS when missing a blitz pickup, they don't get sat down by John Dever when things might be rough in the classroom. Now, in saying that I believe his parents think the best place for him is at Bama but they might be willing to take a visit to AU to check it out but this is not the 1st time in the last decade we have seen a public committment to AU go strange by the reaction of the committ or his family. I still hold hope that we will have brothers on the left side of our oline in the near future.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Ultimately SON has to be happy where he goes or he's not gonna be worth a flip as a football player.

So unless Cyrus wants to truly come to Bama....then I don't think what Mom and Daddy thinks amounts to a hill of beans.

I really like this kid, and he's an amazing prospect. So I say this with no negativity at ALL.

If he likes Auburn more than Bama then we're not losing anything and that's where he should go.

sip

I disagree. The kid only visited AU one time. They probably put on a grand show at AU that weekend because of all the recruits that came in for visits. He has no idea what it's like down there all the time. We shouldn't be conceding him to AU at all right now. Also, to say we're not losing anything is a grand understatement. He's the #1 LT prospect in the country, and they don't grow on trees.

When they jump around and change and change their minds, it speaks of immaturity. Sorry, but that is the way I feel. And, sorry again, but don't tell me that 18 year old k-i-d stuff. When I was 18, my draft number was #2. That was not for the NFL. That was for the United States military. I chose to join the Army and head off to basic training and then straight to the jungle and central highlands of Vietnam. By age 19 I was in that jungle and fighting a war. We have thousands of young men and women doing that right now. Many started as 18 year olds. So, I don't follow the 18 year old k-i-d thing of having to make a serious decision. This choosing where to pay, to me, is not a serious decision. Not in the meaning of life.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I seriously doubt he would be unhappy if he came to bama and was on the team with his brother. especially since auburn wasn't even in HIS TOP 5 a couple of weeks ago!

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Seems he is truly confused. I'm starting to think Chiz and the barn are brain wshing these kids with this family crap! lol. Seriously, the kid has no idea how he really screwed the pooch on this, being it's Bama, Aubarn. Should've just waited till he was 100%. IMO he winds up at Bama ala Calloway.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I agree PokeChop. It didn't sound like we would know what decision he makes today. Crazy day.

I'm sorry, I had to step away from the computer for a while. I did read it on RBR in the comments section, however it was posted by one of the more reliable posters. That is why I was asking if anyone on here had heard it, I didn't know how legit it was.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Wow I just read all those pages to catch up with the drama of today.

I think CK shocked the poo out of everyone today. He may still go to AU but it was VERY clear Pappa had NO idea Awbren was going to come out of his son's mouth. I would want my son to make his own decision, but objectively speaking, if he wanted to go to AU with what is going on there now, and he had to have my signature, and I had thought he was going somewhere else all along I would put the brakes on and say, "Are you 100% sure b/c there is no turning back once this thing is signed."

Not sure if something like that happened but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. He looked really conflicted and in times like that it is best to get other opinions, weigh your options, take your time, and make a well thought out decision.

Sorry, but as a dad, "It just was the first thing to come out of my mouth" wouldn't fall into the "Well thought out decision" category.

The jumping from committment to committment is a point I agree with and understand I will never compare being a college football player to being in the military (especially a soldier who has served in combat). I am one who does not like (no I hate) the analogy of being in a foxhole when comparing war to a sport, but being a D1 athlete is demanding. That is why you sometimes see 5 star recruits fade away. it has always been easy for them but now hard work is involved because it is demanded by your coaches and it is needed because all athletes are just as good as you. You better know where you want to be and have the willingness to commit to a total effort to be great. I think I have heard that from a certain coach in this state. And I agree, an 18 year old is not really a kid anymore but as a 38 year old I know a lot more than I did at 18 but that is a different discussion.
