Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Wow. Just wow. See who's side the coach is on. And it's not Cyrus's.
As far as I'm concerned, Cyrus told AU why he is doing what he's doing on TV yesterday. I'm not sure what part of "I may have made a mistake" the AU coaches don't get. Next question is why Coach McGregor is so adamant that Cyrus talk to them? I really hope he only has Cyrus' well being in mind.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

this might not answer ur question, but we look at everything.... we talk to the coaches, we read, we do our own homework online, we talk to different people. It's not just a football decision... those kids are Student athletes, not athletes students... so they are students first, so education is something we look at as well. We also know that college has a big impact on what type of man a kid will be in the future.... so we also look at the type of environment he will be in...
Hey man, how involved is Walt Williams in this? Has he met or been around Cyrus lately?

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I don't think we should be surprised at anything at this point. Throwing in Iowa at this point??? Wouldn't surprise me if the family just opts completely out of Auburn and Alabama because of all the pressure there and goes to Iowa. I feel for the family. I heard all along during the regular season that Cyrus was not really thinking about recruiting. I think this whole process just overwhelmed him. So I would not be surprised if he just bails on the State of Alabama at this point altogether.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

Here's the article. SIAP, I'm trying to stay away from reading this thread, so I don't get too distracted.

Cyrus Kouandjio's destination may be family vote; high school coach wants him to call Auburn | al.com

What I find odd is that the coach said Tuesday night he felt Cyrus would sign with AU, even though Cyrus wouldn't answer his calls. MB might be able to give us some insight on the coach.
I find the coaches insistence that he call Auburn a little suspicious. Dad is primarily in contact with the Tuscaloosa side of things and the coach is in touch with Auburn? If I was dad, I would tell the coach to back off as clearly it is the coach who has contributed to this confusion. I wonder what Auburn promised Coach McGregor? This all just does NOT make sense. Alabama is CLEARLY a better educational institution. Auburn has had SACS problems and likely will again with the CamGate stuff.

Cyrus' refusing to answer his coaches calls is quite telling to me. He doesn't want to hear what he has to say.

I'm sure you went through the same process for Arie last year. What are the factors that pushed Arie toward bama? Are those factors still in favor of bama in Cyrus' recruiting?

I actually do not like Walt Williams so you are preaching to the choir there. I also absolutely LOATHED Bobby Lowder I honestly do BELIEVE that Brent wanted to come to Auburn and was forced back to Bama. I may be wrong, like I said it is JMO.
Right!! Just like $cam really wanted to go to Miss St but was forced to go to the barn as the money was just TOO MUCH!!!

Even though I would LOVE to see CK play at Bama...I could also understand wanting to go to a school where you don't have to share the spotlight with your sibling.

I hope CK comes to Bama, but if not, nothing personal, but if he becomes a barner I will never "wish him well". If he picks Iowa, I hope he has a great career.
Once you are "All In", any self-respecting Bama fan will not hope you do well; that's just the way it is, and it ain't personal, it's "bidness"...
He's a bright kid, but he really doesn't have his eyes open if he picks the barn; the investigations haven't suddenly stopped. I know if he does pick the barn he will be thinking it's the right place for him, but he couldn't be more wrong...unless he wants to be a veterinarian.

Has Cyrus put any thought into what type of offense he'll be playing in at Alabama or Auburn?

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

His HS coach might be part of the problem.

From al.com......Because he picked Auburn he needs to talk to them," McGregor said. "He needs to explain to them what he's thinking, what's going on and if he changes his mind he needs to tell them. Alabama is being kept in the loop, but Auburn is the school he chose and they are the ones who deserve to hear from Cyrus."

McGregor told Rivals this morning that he hasn't talked to Kouandjio recently.

"I haven't talked to Cyrus yet today," he said. "I called him a couple of times last night but he didn't get back to me so I figured I'd just let him breathe for a little bit. But today I will talk to him because I'd like to move forward. (the coach would like to move forward?! Oh, excuse Cyrus for putting you out while he decides his future. I didn't realize this involves you past today.)

Then from the same article the coach sounds a little more calm....."I don't really know how this happened, if Cyrus wasn't ready to make his choice I would have liked him to have delayed the decision. He can't go wrong with either school, it's just picking which fruit you like better, apples or oranges, and just pick one."

McGregor said he spoke to Auburn coach Gene Chizik twice yesterday as well as Auburn assistant coach Tommy Thigpen. This morning he spoke to Auburn assistant Ted Roof. McGregor also spoke to Alabama assistant coach Sal Sunseri.

McGregor said he wants Kouandjio to talk to Auburn coaches today.

"I'm hoping to get him talking to them at noon today and maybe we can figure a few things out," he said. "I'd rather he make his choice and be happy with it because he can't go wrong either way. But if he's not ready, he at least needs to keep them in the loop."

Latest quote from his dad:

"The best thing would be to go to his brother. His brother is already on the field. We know about the coaches. We know about Alabama," Jean Claude Kouandjio said.

I am absolutely not going to get into a tit for tat conversation here, especially not about Cam. I also want to follow the rules of this board and state my opinions, followed by what I do know - Do I know if we paid him? NO. Do I think we could have paid him? YES. Do I think it is right? That is an entirely different conversation. As the rules stand now, no it is not. Nothing has been proven yet, therefore, I am sticking by my school - much the same as you would stick by yours.

That said, I am not going to buy into the philosophy that every single good decent recruit that comes to Auburn for the next 50 years was paid. There are actual people who want to sign with us as amazing as that may seem. :)

Like I stated before though - I think Cyrus comes to Bama. No need for press conference if decision was the same. Plus, word around the school is not good. Only time will tell though. He seems like a good, decent kid who is being ripped in half. I am sure he will succeed at either school.

Yeah.. I think it's probably a bad sign for Bama AND Barn fans that Iowa seems to have crept back in the mix...

At least for Cyrus I think Iowa would be a better option for him than the Barn.. seriously.. all Barn hate aside..

Not wanting to get flamed here, but I kind of agree. Since he did commit to Auburn, and IF he is talking to the Bama coaches, I do think the Auburn coaches should have the opportunity to speak to him - and yes, I do think they need to be kept in the loop either way.

Kimipela, I actually enjoyed reading your responses. I always enjoy reading others' point of view. I would like to add to this conversation that Trooper Taylor had a bad reputation for shall we say questionable recruiting practices and tactics while he was at Tennessee and he certainly seems to be doing the same at the Barn. I believe the Barn will be in serious trouble with Camgate which will eventually void your NC. It will be gutwrenching for all Barn fans that your one NC every 50+ years will eventually go away, but that's what happens with Pay For Play -- ask Reggie Bush.
And don't forget Ok State wanted to help the movers get him out of there!!

Sounds like the coach needs to shut his trap and realize this is a family issue and has absolutely nothing to do with him! As a parent it would drive me nuts to have someone outside of my family running his mouth and trying to get my child to do something. His behavior is up to his parents, not you coach, so butt out! That line about him wanting to move forward is completely ludicrious. Remember your place coach, and start occupying it.

Good decision, now if others will do the same. Glad you have gotten settled in.

A school in a state other than Alabama may be a good choice (Iowa and NM wouldn't be at the top of my lists, however). After all, one fan base is always going to bad mouth the kid if he comes instate.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I think from a professionalism standpoint he needs to speak directly with CGC and explain what's going on with him. Maybe give some form of apology for all the confusion. But after that, continued correspondence isn't owed to anyone that the Ck and his family hasn't agreed to.
