We made enough mistakes to lose, that's for sure. I said this in another thread, but I was really disappointed in some of the sideline decisions tonight. To keep lining up for low percentage field goals in the first half when field position was so critical in this game made no sense to me. Punt the ball and pin them in their own end and put the best defense in America back on the field to make a play for you. Also, the trick play with Maze, while it almost worked, was just dumb in my opinion. Trent has them on their heels, just ripped off a huge run, and we run that? We're on the 28, another 5-10 yards to a very makeable FG and a Heisman favorite RB is on the sideline while we (literally) throw the game away with a guy who has attempted about 4 passes his entire time in Tuscaloosa. I thought it was the worst bungle in a game full of them. I love Coach Saban, I really do, but he blew it several times tonight.

I thought McElwain had been tremendous to this point in the season, but tonight, he left me scratching my head.

Coach Saban played Mad Hatter football (trick plays and poor clock management) and Miles played Saban football (run the ball and big play defense). How did THAT happen?

I was about to post this. Yes, if Arky, Bama, and LSU all end the season with one loss, the team ranked highest in the BCS standings goes to Atlanta. Too tired and lazy to post a link right now, but it was on the SEC website a few weeks ago.

This scenario actually favors Bama. If LSU lost to Arky on the last weekend of the season, they would surely drop below Bama, which would have moved back to at least 3 or 4. I have no doubt we would remain ahead of Arky as well. It's a long shot, but it's all we've got right now.
My bad. Forgot about the three way tie.

Both McCarron and Sims were cream of the crop. No one can predict QB development...
Agree. But in my 48 year history with watching this program, in my humble opinion, Snake and Joe Willie were the last great QBs Bama has had. Todd and others decent. But, not in the NFL calibur area. So, it has been over 40 years since a real dominate QB ran this team in my opinion. One that you just knew was going out there and kick butt. What we used to say: "that guy is a stud." We ain't had a QB like that in . . . . . . . . . . . .

LSU won, we lost. To arm-chair second guess all of the coaches is absurd and asinine. These are professionals with years and years of experience. We don't. and shoud not, know the true reasons why many of the decisions that were made tonight were made rather than alternative decisions, but to question our coaching staff??????? Based on......?????? Please.

We do not have first rate kickers and it, more or less, cost us the game. LSU is good but we also played well. LSU won, and we lost. I actually thought we were the better team but you cannot expect to beat quality opponents if, as coaches say, special teams are 1/3 of the equation. Since I'm convinced I don't know as much as the coaches about what they "should" have done, I'll settle for simply being dissapointed with the kicking team and the loss. Roll Tide....
I don't think anyone on this board believes they're more qualified to coach UA football, but when you go away from things that are working, you have out-thought yourself. In the 4th quarter drive when Trent was ripping off gains, you shoot yourself in the foot when you get away from it... and risk not only giving up the ball, but the momentum and confidence of the team as well. In OT, you have to hand the ball off to the best player on the field at least once.

If CJM has had one achilles heel in his tenure as OC, it's the fact that sometimes he out-thinks himself and gets away from the bread and butter of the offense. Of course, I'm from the old school that says "run it until they stop it."

I truly believe Bama is the better team. It just wasn't meant to be tonight.

Won't disagree with that. Guess we all are waiting for the day when we can have a guy play like a Bradford or Leinart. I know CNS is a run-first guy, and I am too, but it'd be nice to see our offense have that serious threat, and I don't think that serious defenses have worried about our passing game.

Many problems in the game. First was execution. We did not execute not even close to what we normally do or should do again a team this quality. Examples: First drive, Maze steps out of bounds on a routine pass and catch that would have been close to a first down. Maze letting the ball get past him on the punt and roll deep into our territory. Maze on the trick play that would have worked were it thrown correctly. The screen attempt to Trent on the first possession in OT. All are plays that we normally execute with fair certainty.
Another problem came back to coaching. I think you have to be honest about your teams strengths and weaknesses in a game like this. Repeatedly kicking the long field goals was a mistake, IMO. When our D is so great, why not play the field position game. Miles certainly did that to use. I was sitting there the whole game, waiting for the fake punk when there was no need. We were constantly getting pinned deep in our own territory.
I think we should have relied on Trent more. I know he had injuries early in the season but is he or is he not 100%? I look back to the SC game in 2009 and how we rode MI, constantly feeding him the ball. It seemed tonight that everytime we were in or near the red zone, TRIch was coming out of the game. He was gashing them for most of the game.
I love our team and coaches, but there's no denying several things were lacking tonight. At least the D played their asses off.

What happened, was Saban got out coached by the crazy guy. Simple as that.

First of all, we did not get out coached, out-physicalled, or anything else. We just got out executed at the end. Our weakness was FG kicker, and that came back to bite us in the end. We couldn't execute in OT. Very simple. I knew as soon as it went to OT we were in big trouble. Our FG kicker couldn't hit anything beyond 30 yds. It is what it is. At some point, Saban and staff are going to have to find a reliable solution at kicker. we've played with fire on special teams and kickoffs the entire season, and it came back to kill us in this game. You can't win a title without a solid kicker!!!! No way to get around it!!!
