Why do we suck in OT? Now 4-8 in OT.

I'm ready for them to throw the wildcat plays out of the play book. They seem to rarely work and when they go bad, they go really bad.

Im just tired of the over thinking and trying to get cute. Just play Bama football, run right at them and we win this game.

My goodness, what will it take to get kickers worth anything on this team? Is it time for a booster to pull out the checkbook? Seriously though, are there not any good kickers that want to play for Bama or, does Saban just not want to recruit them?

I love CNS and CJM, but there is no way to deny we got outcoached. Miles was smart with the field position and his personnel. Most kickers in the college game are iffy from 45+. And we all have known all season that are kicking game was suspect. So why test it? Why not play for field position? Like I said, I love our guys, but the Hatter got us tonight.
I took it as CNS had enough faith in our D to attempt to get some points. It didn't work out, but he was right that our D could stop them.

Total team loss tonight. There were some really questionable coaching decisions as well as mistakes on the field. Refs didn't help us out ONE bit; but if you're counting on the refs, you've already lost.

I truly believe Bama is better than LSU. They just picked the most inopportune time to lay a big, fat egg.

Exactly. After Trent ripped off the 24-yarder, we should have kept riding him right to the victory. He had them right where he wanted them at that point and we blew it with the foolish wildcat pass. I still can't believe it.

Wow, what a game... Bama shut down LSU better than I thought they would. If these two teams played 10 times I think they'd split them 5-5 (with a combined points total under 100 :)).

I really don't see anything wrong with calling those FG's that we missed. They didn't score off of the change of possession and you guys are jumping on the staff for trying to get points. Same with the Maze pass play. Had we got the catch it would have been a genius call. You folks amaze me!

You know it only seems foolish, because Williams didn't hold on by an eye lash. If he could have held on some how it would have been a play of the century. But i do agree with you. I wish we would have ridden the momentum we had at that moment with Trent and bashed it in.!!!!

1. After Foster missed the first two kicks, we should have just punted the ball from then on out. I think it was a mistake to put Shelley in to try to kick that long of a field goal. He just does not have the leg to make those.

2. I didn't like the trick play to Williams. Trent had just busted out two long runs. Keep pounding it. I just don't understand why we go away from what were good at when we get in scoring range. That goes for the entire game.

3. Why put Maze back in there to return that punt? C. Jones is capable of a fair catch.

The problem is not playing to your strengths or admitting the limitations of your personnel. In this type of game, field position is everything. Yes, LSU failed to score off of the changes of possession. However, if we punt a couple of those and pin LSU inside the 10, our chances of starting the next drive in excellent field position go up exponentially. Instead, they start at the 30, make a first down or two and then use their world class punter to flip the field on us. Huge difference in the game.

As for the Maze pass call, again we are about one more first down from a very makeable FG (for once). Trent had just got done gashing them, and he's on the sideline watching a guy attempt about his 3rd or 4th pass of his college career in the biggest game of the last 5 or 6 years.

What is so amazing about someone questioning those calls?

I disagree. I thought it was a foolish play call, whether it would have succeeded or not. Too much of a risk. Like my daddy used to say, you gotta dance with the one who brought you. I feel like we're saving Trent up for something sometimes. go back and look at how we used to use MI. Give it to him, and get the heck outta the way.

Re: ****Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. LSU****

I don't seem to recall back in those ancient times that recruits were on 87 web sites with ESPN rating them every step of the way. If you think these two were rated better than them, then we are going to just disagree. Coach Bryant brought both in and I think he knew talent as good as Saban or some ESPN talking head.
Not so ancient to me, since I was on campus when Coach Bryant returned. My point was that Namath, Stabler and Todd would all have been rated as 4-5 stars with today's rating systems. We also had a couple of dozen "sure-fire" prospects who didn't pan out between and since those three. NO school has a Favre or a Brees every year. And, while I'm on the topic, talent doesn't just get developed even in college. Both Brees and Brady came out of college with the "game manager" label. If you look around the country, the record of the three you cited for just school is really pretty outstanding...

If you have faith in your defense to get a stop, then you punt deep, get the stop and gain some field position.

The things I heard coming in this week that would be the difference was QB play and special teams. In the end, thats exactly what the outcome came down to.

I think if you were calling the game I would say that you are being too "conservative"!

Re: ****Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. LSU****

The wildcat play was not the only "cute" play that didn't work in the game. Early in the game there was that reverse or whatever it was play when Maze tripped, killing the momentum on that drive. I'm just tired of the cuteness. I believe that in these big games, the coaching staff over thinks itself at times.

Re: ****Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. LSU****

The loss hurts but very proud of our team, especially our defense; they played an awesome, awesome game...and never gave up a touchdown.
We had some guys that played through pain and gave their all, players like Maze, B. Jones, come to mind, but as a team they just couldn't stop shooting themselves in the foot in critical situations on offense and special teams.
I've still no doubt these two teams are the best in the country, and its not even close.

Really? With that defense? I would bet a month's salary that if we change just 2 of those FG attempts to punts and take back the Maze pass, we win the game. Call me conservative if you want, but you'd also have to call me a winner.

Re: ****Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. LSU****

Saban already lost faith in Foster after the 2nd missed FG and why he put in Shelley. He should have went it for it if not punt it at that point. Again most of the time we had to kick long FGs was because our offense got negative yds during the series through penalties, bad play calls, and sacks.

Our coaches panicked and theirs didn't. We got cute and they stuck to the plan. That's all it was. Nothing more, nothing less. They allowed us to self destruct and didn't get in our way.
