This loss hurts, but take nothing away from LSU. Bama wanted it bad - LSU wanted it worse. Our kicking game bit us in the rear end - finally. Had Foster made only 2 of those field goals, we win that game. You had 2 teams with a lot of fight, great defenses and 2 offenses which couldn't punch it into the end zone...and it came down to OUR most glaring weakness - our kicking game.
It is what it is. We can blame it on coaching, and there are things many people don't understand about the play calling and I have NO idea why Maze was in there for a punt return. But regardless of the play calling, we had our chances in that game and we didn't get it done. It's that simple.
It was a true defensive struggle and the team with the best kicker won. That's it. No need to complicate it too much beyond that.
This, too, shall pass. This program is in incredible shape - granted we need to recruit a kicker and FAST - and I think we will. The future is bright, Bama is in the hunt EVERY YEAR. What more can you ask for? During the 60's and 70's, Bama won a lot, but they didn't win 'em all. Sometimes they came SO CLOSE to championships and came up short. If I remember correctly, 1969 was such a bad year that many thought that Bryant had lost his touch and Bama's best years may have been behind them. And we see what happened in the 70's.
So this is disappointing, but it happens.
