MN cops kill man trying to get his ID out

IMO there's way too much drama and not enough education going on.

Drama in one hand....education in the other....which one serves the black community better?

It's so obvious I'm amazed that no one is bringing this to the forefront of the conversation.

Every single incident contains human errors on both sides.

Yet....everyone is running around wringing their hands......singing hymns....marching....lecturing.....pointing fingers....making accusations.....you name it.

The only thing not being discussed is how to avoid making the mistakes that caused the shootings. IOW....education.

The typical politics that seems to continue to divide our country as far back as i can remember.

It just gets tiring.....

It's obviously early, but this looks bad initially for the police officer.

This is a weird issue to parse out because:

1. I do think that there are deep-seeded issues between local law enforcement and the minority communities across this country. This is generally not an issue because of the officers at the bottom in their squad car just going where his leadership ordered and enforcing the laws dictated by local/state/federal politicians. Considering that policing policy and laws in the past have been used to wall off minorities or generally keep them under the yoke, I don't think it is absurd to consider the possibility that it still exists today in different forms.

2. It is important to remember that we've never seen a "police murder" video where the suspect willingly complied with orders from law enforcement and submissively allowed physical detainment by officers.

3. With that said, the police are not seen as a legitimate force of peace and order with many minority communities. It has become vicious cycle the feeds on itself with more unneeded blood.

[h=3]Huntsville Police Chief: We're unified with Black Lives Matter
Huntsville police said the department and the Black Lives Matter movement want to accomplish the same goals and the two organizations are happy to support each other.[/h]Chief Mark McMurray said it's important to remember the violent acts in Dallas do not represent the thoughts and beliefs of the Black Lives Matter movement. The chief said he supports the movement and is honored to march together as one.

"We walk in unison with these types of movements because they want what we want. We want a peaceful community,” McMurray said. “We're all striving for the same thing."

I salute the chief and the Huntsville Police Department!

The last I heard, the cop from the gym was still an officer, but he's working for a police department in another Birmingham area town/suburb.

I'm sorry but in my opinion he should have been fired. I understand they can't fire every cop that someone has a complaint about, but if there was video from the gym or even if this is not the 1st complaint, he should be deemed unfit. You can bet some of his fellow officers know his temperament. He may have his own little buddies that act and hang with him in the force.

I was in a position to see and hear many Birmingham police in a non threatening laid back area of my business. I felt some were not fit for the job. Some were extremely professional well trained and seemingly perfect for the job, but I only saw them when they were relaxing or doing paperwork in my office area.

I wonder how hard it is to recruit the type personality that is needed most. It does not appear to be a job the average citizen would want. I don't think it pays very well and I don't know how long it takes to become a "Detective" which is far different than a street cop.

I will further add I could see a racial divide. They were not all "Brother Officers" but I'd bet none squealed on another.

Not police murder, but definitely police shooting a guy who was complying with instructions.
Go to the 1:30 point.
Young white cop in SC, traffic stop in convenience store, the citizen (young black man) steps out of the car (no-no, in my view), the cop asks for his license. Unbeknownst to the cop, the license is still in the car. Following instructions, the driver reached back into his car. Cop thinks he is reaching for a gun, so the cop shoots the driver. Fortunately, the driver lived.

I think this was a miscommunication between cop and driver, and a cop who had placed himself into a situation in which, if the driver had produced a gun, the cop would have been vulnerable, so he suddenly felt threatened. It would have been better for the cop to have stayed behind some kind of cover so, even if the driver had reached for a gun, the cop would not have been that vulnerable, and would not have felt that threatened.
I do not know what happened in the Minnesota case, but if the cop felt threatened, maybe he was in the wrong position like the cop in South Carolina.
My advice to both would have been, "Protect yourself, and communicate. And demand communication from the citizens you are dealing with."

Interesting.....

[h=2]Confirmed – Philando Castile Was an Armed Robbery Suspect – False Media Narrative Now Driving Cop Killings…[/h]Saint Anthony, MN, Police Officers Jeronimo Yanez and Joseph Kauser pulled over Mr. Castile and Ms. Reynolds because the driver, Philando Castile, matched the suspect profile in an armed robbery which occurred on July 2nd, at a convenience store, only a few blocks from where their car was pulled over.

The armed robbery occurred on July 2nd 7:30pm (Sat). The CCTV images were given to media and LEO by detectives on July 5th (Tuesday). A BOLO (Be On Look Out) alert was issued the same day, Tuesday July 5th. Philando Castile was pulled over on July 6th.

From the radio dispatch of Officer Jeronimo Yanez:
“I’m going to stop a car. I’m going to check IDs. I have reason to pull it over.”
“The two occupants just look like people that were involved in a robbery. The driver looks more like one of our suspects, just ‘cause of the wide set nose.”

It is possible a CCP was obtained in another county, however the media are conflating “permit to purchase” with “concealed carry permit”. For some reason the CCP ownership is being amplified; it really has no bearing and is largely irrelevant for the context of the situation. That said, there is no factual evidence Mr. Philando Castile had a CCP.
Due to the rear facing camera option on the phone Ms. Reynolds was using, the uploaded video everyone has seen is a reversed mirror image – making it appear she was in the drivers side, and Castile was on the passenger side. However, that impression is incorrect, Castile was driving the vehicle. The uploaded image is reversed by Facebook Livestream Video.
However, correcting the mirror image, in part of the video it is possible to see a hand gun located on the thigh of Philando Castile. This also appears to be why Officer Yanez repeats to Ms. Reynolds not to reach toward her boyfriend:

I think that is probably wise.
