QB Competition 2018

It's slowly leaking out that there is a team chemistry issue and one of CNS's measuring sticks for being the starting qb is "winning over the team." What happens if Jalen has "lost the team?"
Then, I would hope Tua gets a shot.

I haven't heard that anywhere, do you have any links or social media quotes? I'd be very surprised if the most composed quarterback Alabama has had is actually losing the locker room. We can question his ability in the pocket, but I can't imagine a better guy in the locker room. Remember we're still just one game removed from Hurts playing a great game against a fantastic pass defense and literally saving the game with his change of a play. Aside from perhaps a couple receivers not named Ridley, it's hard for me to imagine those guys are going to turn on him after one loss. Fans? Yes, players? Why?

anyone know how Hurts projects as a QB in the NFL?
i know it's very early, but my guess is that right now he'd be looked at like a developmental prospect and would have to drastically improve his reads and passing to be considered a 3 round guy in the draft.
could it be that his future in the NFL may be at a different position?
and if so, does that potentially play into how we use him and Tua in the future?
could Hurts become something like a Hines Ward or Kordell Stewart?

This doesn't surprise me...when a talented team starts struggling these issues can quickly rise up. JH has a cockiness that borders on arrogance...The "I was made for times like this" quote at MSU is what I mean. You can see it grow through the year. Now, couple that with the talent at RB and WR -- you have a recipe for dissension. The playmakers want the ball...they know what they can do. I am sure CNS will sort it all out for them...

Currently, Hurts doesn't project as an NFL QB at all. That's not to say that won't change (I don't believe it will), but right now, he wouldn't even get a free agent look as a QB.

If that’s the case then perhaps he will get looks elsewhere at RB or WR?

Is this seriously happening? One poster makes an unsubstantiated claim and we're already running with that? Can we at least get some attribution before this kind of stuff?
He's entitled to his opinion. And maybe he has attribution, but doesn't feel like sharing.

It's possible. College QBs will typically get asked to move to WR, or even DB. With 2 more years of eligibility, it's hard to project right now. Personally, I'd like to see him at RB, behind Tua. Imagine the wildcat problems that would cause.

He said "It's slowly leaking out that there is a team chemistry issue", without attribution that's a rumor and technically against board policy. Now I'm not trying to be board police here, but especially when other posters take it as fact and start making disparaging remarks... come on, either you have a source or you're just spreading rumors.

Perhaps there's some middle ground. Perhaps he has a source, but the chemistry issues do not directly implicate Hurts. That's why you need attribution and clarification, so things don't get out of hand.

I don't think that anyone has actually said that Alabama has locker room problems. I think that there have been hints (by a mod or two) at other problems, but they have been too vague to narrow down. And while it is clear that some guys want more touches, that doesn't necessarily translate to anything else. Every player wants more touches, especially when things are not going well.

Maybe he has a source. I had a source on the night of the FSU game about Miller and Lewis being ruled out for the year, and had my post deleted. And, was threatened with banishment when I brought it up.

For the record, I've been calling for more underneath stuff and in the process creating more diversity in the touches as well. I'm not saying there are no issues, but I just don't want to see things devolve into the notion that there's this mutiny against Hurts when I've literally heard nothing substantive in that regard. If there's something substantive, we need it out there, otherwise guilty by speculation is really unfair.

Maybe he has a source.
Which is why I asked for clarification.

I have watched him closely this year...the more success he has enjoyed the more his confidence grows and moves the scale toward cockiness. There's a fine line that a successful QB must walk -- I saw humility last year and earlier this year...not so much now. Could be wrong...just my observation. Relax -- this is a discussion board.

I've heard a few things since the game, but can't tell if it's just hurt feelings or actual chemistry issues. And that's from players, not fans.

Plenty of references on Tidefans that "hint" at what I said. In addition, I've been told something else and I have no reason to doubt what I've been told. But I can't give specifics.

But even without that, other things have been said right here by mods and others have read between the lines about the attitude of the players.

Yeah, which is why I haven't carried that water. I only talk about what we know - there are players that want more touches. Outside of that, it is fair to speculate about the possibility that there might have been issues like complacency that led up to the Auburn loss as long as we agree that it is just speculation and no one tries to put it out there as fact.

Frankly, this comes down to fans trying to figure out what happened, and hoping that it won't carry over. All we can do is guess and talk.

it's like the telephone game
Exactly, that's my only concern. Unintentional we could easily reach extremes.

I'll give one example. There was one rap group I was let's say loosely affiliated with. They were not on good terms with Eminem's crew in Detroit. So, there's this weird altercation between members of their entourage and members of D12's entourage and it gets out (as in a prominent figure literally goes on a hotline and starts saying it happened) that there was this armed assault that went down. People were freaking out, there were like threats of violence, and what it turned out to be was someone with no affiliation at all (even what the level of violence was exaggerated from what I recall). But, you know, when one guy tells another guy something, and someone makes an assumption, and then he tells someone else, you can blow things out of proportion way too fast. Which is why a source is so important. It wasn't that nothing happened, but it got conflated.

I mean I'm unhappy with the playcalling. I think a lot of people are. I think there does need to be some soul searching, if there are concerns they need to be addressed. But I as of right now have every reason to believe those issues will be addressed and resolved.

I've seen frustration from some of the WR's over the course of the season - but WR's always want the ball and are "always open." (Even though quite a few were open)

If it comes down to play the O-line should thank their lucky stars Hurts is back there turning negative plays into 10 yard gains and the RB's have no reason to dislike Hurts's paly as he just hands them the ball.

This is looking at it from a play POV. I can't speak to personalities in the locker room which is what you may have heard about. But on the field the only group of people I could see being frustrated at Jalen are the receivers.

Everyone is going to be frustrated with everyone after a game like that. The solution certainly isn't to turn on one another.
