There is absolutely no need to be negatively recruiting when you've won five of the last nine national championships. I would simply say to any parent that if another school spoke poorly of Alabama that it would be jealousy, pure and simple.

No, there isn't................and I know Bama wont do it......and I am glad. But it would be funny to see some of the ones doing it suffer a little for the fables they spin

Yeah they do say it, and a whole lot of the guys believe it. Jonathan Allen is the ONLY guy on that list that has double digits in career sacks.

If you don't think recruits pay attention to that, look at that list RTR91 posted of guys we've missed on in the greatest era of football and recruiting if any program of all time.

You would think kids are smart enough to see the facts rather than some asst coach saying false negative things about our DL group that wants you to come to his school. I would like to sign every 5* DL but signing 10% is absolutely amazing. Not every kid wants to come to Bama and we do miss but the list I posted is the best DL players in the nation during that span and calling it 'struggling' is wrong.

Best thing Bama can say on this is, we got 5 what do they have? Nuff said end of story. The proof is in the trophy case, and Bama's is getting stuffed LOL.

These past few weeks I've heard Kirby has been a douche since arriving at Georgia, all I can say is THE teacher especially when it's CNS will come out on top... he's driven to come out on top in recruiting and to me that means beware Kirby and the rest of the country as well RTR!!

You know, I really don`t know how you would recruit objectively against the Alabama football program. I don`t know how you would have any choice except to try to find ways to go negative.

That's tough. I think you would have to say something along the lines of "If you look at Alabama, they are certainly on top right now. But history says they can only stay up there for so long before they come down. All empires eventually fall. And we are in a great position to rise up and be the ones to take that spot, and you joining our program will certainly put us in a better position to do that."

That is what I would do were I recruiting for GA.

"Alabama has 4 and 5 star athletes riding the bench. Sign with us and you'll have a chance to play this year, and be one of the stars on the new best team in this conference and nation. We'll hate to see you go after 3 years, but work hard and you'll be in the NFL after that"

edit: Just saying that's how opposing coaches can recruit and are recruiting against Alabama.

Pretty sure Kirby might have lit the fire under Saban again (not saying he wasn't full go). You can tell Saban wanted a lot of changes toward the end of last season. I've read where some NFL guys think this staff will rival the one he put together at LSU. One of my questions though will be with the GOAT BB going off the field coach will Coach P only be a one season guy and hire someone at the end of the year.

Serious question...

How old are you?

'sigh' whatever.

It's just that when I read many of your posts I get this mental image of a tweenage kid wearing a "Big Johnson" or a "Motel 69" t-shirt and a slightly askew baseball cap that says "Suck on This."

Since you joined the site around 12 years ago, you must be older than that.

It would nice, instead, when I read your posts to be able to picture an appropriately aged person wearing a "Big Johnson" or a "Motel 69" t-shirt and a slightly askew baseball cap that says "Suck on This."

I think a fun game would be to start a thread naming posters and give a description of what you think they look like and how old they are. Earle can't play because he's put his mug as his avatar and has disclosed his age. So he's disqualified!!!!

This is a fantastic idea. I support it

Or perhaps a thread guessing which posters most closely, physically resemble certain cartoon characters.

Oh, I look younger in person... :D

For some obtuse reason, Mrs. C. claims I remind her of "Butters". (I'm not even blond!)

Others who have crossed me probably view me as Cartman. (And I'm not overweight!)

<not in blue>

But history says Alabama can and has had prolonged stays at the top. Previously there were 2 such eras with one or two coaches. A 24 year (23 seasons) and 25 year period of this type of sustained success. (When considering this, I started counting beans and had a hard time stopping . Thanks for the indulgence.)

1923-1946 (Wade 23-30, Thomas 31-46, 43 war, dnp):
  • led nation with 81.1 winning % (P5 type programs: Tenn 2, UGA 15, LSU 20, Vandy 21, A&M 23)
  • 4 NCs (don't count '41)
  • 9 1 blemish (loss or tie) seasons
  • 4 unblemished seasons, 6 reg seasons
  • 4-1-1 in Rose Bowl vs PCC from '25-'45, rest of the nation 4-11

1958-1982 (Bryant):
  • led nation with 82.4 winning % (P5 type: Penn St 2nd at 78.6%. Ark 9, LSU 11, UGA 12, AU 13, UT 14, Mizzou 15, Miss 16, UF 18).
  • 6 NCs
  • 3 unblemished seasons, 7 reg seasons
  • 11 1 blemish (loss or tie) seasons, 12 reg seasons

2007-2017 (Saban)
  • led nation with 85.6 winning % (OSU 2nd at 82.8, LSU 6, UGA 12, UF 18, AU 20, Mizzou 20).
  • 5 NCs (no one else has more than 1)
  • 1 unblemished season, 3 reg seasons
  • 6 1 blemish seasons, 9 1 blemish reg seasons
  • 5-1 NC games, 8-2 BCS/CFP games, 5-1 SECC games, 6-1 vs #1, 56-17 top 25, 27-10 top 10, 15-7 top 5.
  • 10 consecutive years ranked as number 1 (active). 2nd all time is Miami with 7. During this era OSU is 2nd with 4 appearances, Clemson is 2nd with 3 consecutive appearances (active). Bama has 66 of 164 appearances as #1 in the AP poll, OSU 16, LSU 15, UF 14.
  • (These numbers are more remarkable considering that 2007 is included.)

Bama's 2 inter-elite eras:

1947-1954 (Red Drew)
  • Bama 16th in nation in winning %, 54-28-7.
  • 1 SECC
  • Went to 3 major bowl games, 1-2
  • Finished ranked in the AP top 20 4 times: 6, 16, 9, 13
1955-1957 (E.B. Whitworth)
  • 4-24, including 0-10 in 1955

1983-2006 (Perkins 4, Curry 3, Stallings 7, DuBose 4, Franchione 2, Shula 4)
  • 16th in nation in on field winning %, 192-93-2
  • 1 NC
  • 3 SECC
  • Finished ranked in AP 14 times
  • 9 10+ win seasons
  • Stallings 7 year period: 1 NC, 1 SECC, 81.0 winning % 6th, 13 12 11 10 win seasons, 6 ranked seasons, 3 top 5 finishes.

Notes on current SEC members:

  • [*=left]LSU 20, 11, 6. P5 type teams winning % ranking for the 3 eras (LSU has history. Along with UGA, they're the only SEC programs ranked in each era. LSU is 2nd behind Bama with an SECC in 7 decades, and 2nd with UF with 3 NCs.)
  • UGA 15, 12, 12
  • Tenn 2, 14, ur
  • AU ur, 13, 20
  • Mizzou ur, 15, 20
  • Ark 9th during the Bryant era

Again, Bama has a history of elite ~25 year dominant periods. They're just on year 12 in the current 25 year epoch .
