Alabama QB competition article

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

This wont happen. You can book it that one QB will play x number of series and then the other will come in and play likely the same number of series. After those two cycles the QB that was more effective will come back in. It has always been coaches plan to get both on the field. You can take it to the bank with the new 4 game rule that Saban will make sure one of Jalen’s four games is used up today.

"You can take it to the bank" - Nobody, not even Ms. Terry, could make that claim at this point.

I'll point out one more time that at the half of the NC game, Tua was told he would start but that they would rotate series. Well, despite Tua having a few "oops" moments he still stayed in the game.

I think we'll see Jalen tonight, but I don't think it will be the first, second or third series. I think we'll see him later in the game when we are up a few scores.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I dont' think so....I think they each get 2 series, and then it's Tua until the 4th quarter -- then Mac gets mop up

I think this will be the case. As confident as we the fans are, this is still a game against a football program that realistically can beat us if we're not careful. So the "experimenting" can't go on very long. I think both QB's get two series each. Then the decision will be made.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I hope its just Tua the whole way until/unless we are up by 3tds or something. I'd still be ok with a package for Jalen on goal line type plays but I don't see him agreeing to that role

I will have to respectfully disagree. You CAN take it to the bank that Jalen Hurts plays in this game. And I would be will to also bet Ms Terry would agree with my statement. Of all the things I stated, this would not be the one that should be questioned.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

The fact that they both will play could mean anything. Coach Saban just wants to keep Louisville off balance, and I think he admitted that to Chris Fowler. That's why he has not officially named the starter. Media reports that whoever starts first will be a game time decision is false, since we know the team was already told.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

So which coach wanted to play Tua and which wanted Hurts????

I have my suspicions.....

Well it's very obvious which coach wanted to play Hurts. It's also on record who won the Auburn game last year. I just wonder why Saban hires an offensive coordinator if he isn't going to let him do his job. I hope Locksley isn't just a yes man.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

Personally I don’t understand playing around with a “QB competition” into actual games when one QB clearly outperforms the other QB at basically everything a QB is supposed to do. I mean if Hurts continues to play a significant amount of the snaps during games and/or starts, I don’t know why this wouldn’t bring back all the player issues that we had going on last season with entire position groups looking to transfer. It’s like playing with one hand tied behind your back just for the fun of it.

Regardless, I hope this QB competition plays out like the AJ McCarron- Star Jackson “QB Battle”, where Star Jackson just played mop up for 2 games while AJ started.

This is college football and things can change and are fluid many times when noise continues to be turned up. The starter will “technically” be a game time decision but baring any unforeseen changes the O was told who would start today. I wont bet my house on it, maybe just my truck. 😉

Star Jackson? Wow I forgot about him.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

If you bet $100 last week and Tua wins you would get $500 if you bet this week and Tua gets it you get 400. Basically Vegas has decided this week Tua is more probable than he was last week so the payout is lower.

minus the juice

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

It has now been reported by ESPN that Saban confirmed yesterday both would play. Leading me to believe if the report of the incident between Jalen, coach and whomever was true and it ticked Saban off that bad. Hurts wouldn't touch the field today. But they're both playing. So take that for what's it's worth.
That was based on a pre-recorded interview with Chris Fowler. It's coach speak and 'gamesmanship'.

Tua will start and play until the score/lead is big enough to start making team wide subs. Then maybe Jalen does play which makes what CNS is saying 'technically' true.

Though after Thurday night's shenanigans it may be Mac who comes in 2nd.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I hope not. I'd like to see Tua be able to get into a rhythm and really show what he can do.

I think you might have misread what I said

I was referring to your prediction they'll both get two series...unless CNS has said that's the plan how can you say "take it to the bank?"

FWIW, I know he's said they'll both play...but how can anybody say what that'll look like?

This is the point of playing both. Winning the team means getting everyone to give full effort when the QB they trust most is on the field. So if the WRs and others dont want one QB you will likely see evidence of that during the game. Therefore, one QB or the other “wins” the team.

Well he told that to both QBs and today to Chris Fowler during an interview. His words were. He does not want either of them looking over their shoulders so they way they deal with that is one will get x number of plays and then the other will get a number of plays. His words, not mine.

If thats the case then its pretty clear already who won the team

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I think it's hilarioius that Jalen gets credit for 26-2 when number 26 was against Georgia.

Keep in mind what Saban had always said. “This years team is not last years team”

I don’t necessarily dissaggree with what you are saying but he will allow this year’s team to make its own decision. Will that take 1 game or 3? We will see.
