Saban message apparent message to team

Didn't Anderson say something recently about how he finds it insulting that other teams dare to take the field against Alabama, or something to that effect?

But he was so nervous that he played a mediocre at best game on Saturday?

I think there may be even more issues with this team than we know.

Sark was having his way with us until Ewers got hurt, Heupel apparently could have punted the ball for completions against us, I shudder to think what Kiffin has in mind for our D.

At the midpoint, I think the team we've seen to this point is the team we're going to see to the end of the season.

We could win out, we could lose a couple more.

Shocking considering the talent we have.

As coach says, it is what it is.
On paper, this is the most talented team Bama has had under Saban. Its obviously not translating to the field. I think it comes down to two huge things:

1. Lack of leadership among the players or lack of internal accountability. This could be from having no real vocal leader, no emotional leader. No one player that grounds the team in times of adversity. You could argue Bryce does that on Offense to some extent. You would think Will would be that on Defense, but if he is and he goes into big games showing his nerves....that's a recipe for disaster and it was vs TN.

2. Assistant coaches. What is Pete's personality like? I don't think he's in their faces like Muschamp (thank God) or even like Kirby. I doesn't appear he has that emotional fire as a coordinator that permeates a defense. If he doesn't have an attitude or mean streak going into a game, how are the kids going to do it. Same on offense....BOB's in the press box, detached. That's great for seeing the field, not so much for getting a feel for the game.

We are ultimately discombobulated amongst the players and amongst the coaches it seems. It doesn't feel like there is one voice, one mission, one drive.

And yes, I got to use the word discombobulated in a sentence.....doesn't happen often.....enjoy.

Exactly. If your apparent Alpha player is a bundle of nerves, I guarantee you the rest of the team saw that and could feel how different he was......all of them. How that gets fixed....more experience, which Will should have plenty in big games.

The environment in Knoxville, after 15 years and having a chance with a very good QB and a capable offense, the refs, the whole thing was a buzz saw for a team coming in playing nervous.

Amazingly, despite all that, they still could have won the game.
If the team was nervous and this and that, maybe losing was a good thing. Not to do the whole cliche “loss being a wake up call” thing but I’d rather us lose now and try to make adjustments than lose later in the regular season or postseason.

Maybe, I just don't trust this particular staff to be able to make necessary adjustments. The defensive stuff has been going on for 4 years. The offensive stuff, where we get pedestrian in crunch time has been the last 2. Those time frames correlate directly to two coordinators.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
it is what it is. He should go too, but again I still contend the fact that Lupoi was DC in 18 and Golding has been since 19 points to Saban being extremely comfortable with the results. I think our only realistic hope is more competent offensive play calling with excellent quarterback play.

But the pre snap penalties are getting way worse, and that crap needs to stop asap because I guarantee you that LSU and Ole Miss aren’t going to be walks in the park if they don’t
If I recall there was discussion during that season whether Golding had already taken over the defensive playcalling because Lupoi wasn't doing an impressive job. The defensive had taken an obvious step backwards and grumblings and rumblings started getting louder. Whether or not Golding had taken over the playcalling or began to get more involved we'll probably never know. But one thing is for certain since 2018 our defense has lost a lot of its consistency and luster and Golding has been a main part of it for approximately 4 years. It's hard NOT to point to him.

Bob obviously could have have an assistant in the press box giving him info on what is happening on the field. There is something badly wrong with an OC who doesn't want to be on the front line interacting with the players.

Totally disagree with this statement. Coach Bill Oliver was always in the press box when he was here. You can see so much better from the box. It is hard to see things from the field. Sark and Kiffin did I know, but there are reasons some coaches like being in the box. Some coaches even like both their ears covered with the headsets vs. only having one covered.

Let's shift our energy from last week game to this week's game. Be positive and be happy.

Harrell was spotted going through pre-game warmups. Aaron Anderson has practiced with the team in recent weeks. Earl Little Jr has made some noise at practice.

When you combine Saban's comments toward the team about entitlement at positions, I can't help but shift my eyes to WR and other positions. Will Harrell finally play this weekend? WIll there be some changes at some positions?

Well, he got a DUI earlier this year. I wonder if that's had any impact on how players perceive him. I know if I was getting yelled at by someone about making a mistake I'd remember that mug shot every time. But then again, the defense was embarrassing before Pete got sauced and drove a car.

My problem with this is that BoB is clearly NOT seeing what he thinks he is seeing by being up in that booth.

He needs to get his rear end down on the field where he can communicate with his QB and get his own rear end chewed out in person by Coach Saban when he screws up.

Might as well, lets see what these guys have. Gotta find someone that has that elusive "it" factor.

I'm sorry, but what does DUI have to do with his coaching up the players? I don't see the relevance of this at all. Would it be the same thing if players got DUI? I think that's a terrible take right here.. to compare DUI to his coaching.

Agreed, and most young people really don't care about that type of thing.

Kiffin was on the field because he had Blake Sims and Jalen Hurts starting at QB for the first time and he needed to talk over things with them.

BoB doesn't need to explain things to Bryce. Bryce knows what he's doing.

Harrell allegedly ran with the 1s most of last week at practice. Thought we'd for sure see him last week. He traveled and dressed, but no dice.

BOB is the OC not the QBC. There are other offensive players that need talken to and always doing it through an assistant with a headset doesn't have the same effect as being in their face. I wish the coordinators would get back on the field.

As far as some of the players, why put in the effort when you already have the NIL money in your pocket.

This is why I think it was coaching issue Saturday... People that should've played, didn't play. I really thought he was playing.... but I think we'll definitely will see different personnel this weekend.

I'm constantly amazed at how fans keep bringing up NIL as if it's affecting the performance on the field.

Yeah. Alex spends more time with the QBs I think. I don't even know if he has an official title but he's the one they talk to on the sideline.
