On paper, this is the most talented team Bama has had under Saban. Its obviously not translating to the field. I think it comes down to two huge things:Didn't Anderson say something recently about how he finds it insulting that other teams dare to take the field against Alabama, or something to that effect?
But he was so nervous that he played a mediocre at best game on Saturday?
I think there may be even more issues with this team than we know.
Sark was having his way with us until Ewers got hurt, Heupel apparently could have punted the ball for completions against us, I shudder to think what Kiffin has in mind for our D.
At the midpoint, I think the team we've seen to this point is the team we're going to see to the end of the season.
We could win out, we could lose a couple more.
Shocking considering the talent we have.
As coach says, it is what it is.
1. Lack of leadership among the players or lack of internal accountability. This could be from having no real vocal leader, no emotional leader. No one player that grounds the team in times of adversity. You could argue Bryce does that on Offense to some extent. You would think Will would be that on Defense, but if he is and he goes into big games showing his nerves....that's a recipe for disaster and it was vs TN.
2. Assistant coaches. What is Pete's personality like? I don't think he's in their faces like Muschamp (thank God) or even like Kirby. I doesn't appear he has that emotional fire as a coordinator that permeates a defense. If he doesn't have an attitude or mean streak going into a game, how are the kids going to do it. Same on offense....BOB's in the press box, detached. That's great for seeing the field, not so much for getting a feel for the game.
We are ultimately discombobulated amongst the players and amongst the coaches it seems. It doesn't feel like there is one voice, one mission, one drive.
And yes, I got to use the word discombobulated in a sentence.....doesn't happen often.....enjoy.
