I said before that we would find someone else to gripe about when Golding and Bob were gone, we have to let it play out, listen Pruitt's not coming so need to get that mess gone to much going on with him right now and Coach knows that, so we live with what we got and go on, if 90% knew on here what they were talking about we would be 2-10 each year
The Cult of Pruitt has really made it where any and every hire outside of Pruitt, Schumann, or Leonhard would have instantly resulted in a thread like this.

I’m not super excited but it’s not a bad hire. But if anything… I love it because of the eeyore rampage on this thread. You would have thought we just became a 6-6 team with some of the comments. It’s going to be a long offseason…. The Texas game can’t get here soon enough.

It’s funny how for 5 years I’ve heard nothing but “fire Golding” and then we are finally rid of him and the board looks like it’s on a near meltdown minutes after we find out his replacement.

Really need to give it a chance. Sure it’s not what most wanted, but none of us on here have won 7 national championships either. Sure it may be a horrible ride, but it also may look like the sark and kiffin hired threads too. We won’t know until the fall. Let’s get ready for spring and be happy Saban didn’t hire a DC for an OC like Belichick.
On the one hand, it’s unarguable that we won’t know how it goes until the games start. On the other, it’s going to be a really quiet message board the next five months with that attitude. 😁

Like Grantham this could have been concluded 2 weeks ago; therefore not Saban's first choice. Therefore not thrilled. But it is what it is. RTR.

This was a safe hire for CNS. Like I said in earlier post, if Schumann wasn’t the guy look for CNS to look to someone that he has a history with. He knows Steele and Steele knows CNS’s defense. Plus JP and KS crossed paths on the Alabama staff over the years.

I fully expect the next move is the get JP in analyst role ASAP and then ride out whatever may come with UT investigation. Then possibly pass the torch to JP as DC.

I’m certainly not overjoyed with hiring Steele. Schumann or Leonard were my 1A or 1B. But I’m not blindsided by this decision either

Okay, “I’m not excited” doesn’t mean I’m crossing the rail to jump off the bridge but I am disappointed overall. My hope at this point is to mesh the experience CKS brings with the new young minds assembled on this staff. Guess I’ll have to talk myself into being cautiously optimistic about this hire.

Wow. Two very underwhelming hires, especially since everyone felt these were so vital to “ restoring” the program. We all HOPE Rees is way better than BOB, but honestly his actual results at ND, against weaker competition were mixed. Other than blind faith in CNS ( who, btw hired the two coordinators everyone here hates) there is little evidence to justify great optimism.. And now Steele, at this point a retread , who has had declining success in recent stops.
I know, I’ve never coached anything and CNS is the GOAT. Both statements are true, but still hard to be excited about either Hire.

What I remember is Auburn's defense and LSU's defenses having to bail their anemic offenses out over and over and over again when Steele was there. Gus Malzahn post 2014 and Les miles were so anemic offensively it was pathetic.

Well he has already shown he doesn't like to work for Saban. Too I hope he runs the defense he ran at AU rather than the D he ran at Clemson against inferior competition. Too, I guess we will never know if he was any good for Bama cause he only stayed two years. I don't like the hire, but no one asked me. He is a pretty good recruiter and you know Saban, I think, puts recruiting on a higher level of importance than coaching, but right now, we needed coaching. I think Saban chose comfort in this hire, and that is troubling. Just my thoughts, I hope KS proves me wrong.

At least it’s over now, and I don’t mean the coordinator search…
Well it won't be instant.

But if this is it... I mean just Steele is the DC for the rest of CNS's time and that's that?

No this is temporary or a stop gap while we get Pruitt back etc etc...

But it's just plain Steele....

Then yeah the decline is about to start.

Rees would have to be a GRAND SLAM homerun hire...ala a young Sark in the making or something to cover this up.

If Rees is just Decent to Good though?

That's not gonna be enough in tandem to stop 10-2 to 9-3 to 8-4 type slides from beginning.

To anyone happy or even just “fine” with this hire I’m assuming you didn’t watch the Miami mtsu game? Like our Tennessee game but worse. Zero and I mean zero changes to def game plan even after mtsu threw over the top of their d like 6 times. This is worse than Grantham imo.

Why would anyone have watched that game?
