First CFP Rankings- Bama #8

One thing that could help us if we are facing a decision between us and another 12-1 team for the #4 Spot is our Quality Wins.

UGA, Ole Miss, LSU, and Tenn are all in the Top 20 and will probably stay in the Top 20

I don’t think another team would have 4 Wins that good by the end.

Plus our loss is a ‘Good’ loss to the #7

Just so long as that team isn't Texas, we'll be fine.

That being said, we go through this every year.

I think their rankings are, "Let's see if we can really stir the pot and get called a bunch of names to increase interest."

The days of "make sure you lose early" are long, long gone.
And I'm fine with that, but then again, I'm not the one who wanted to say we should "emphasize conference championships" because all conferences are NOT created remotely equal.

It is always interesting, as 1. styles make fights and 2. the transitive property doesn't really apply, but whatever we stand to gain from how we handle LSU probably also impacts how much credit FSU continues to get for beating them.

The way I see it when it comes to Oklahoma vs Texas is they both have comparable big wins. Oklahoma has a close win over Texas at a Neutral site. Texas has a 10 point win at Alabama. Then Oklahoma lost to a Kansas team that Texas absolutely destroyed.

Idk. It makes sense to me that Texas is above Oklahoma as I think they are pretty clearly the better team at this point in the season.

I also think Oregon is better than Washington though. And I think Oregon probably jumps them if Washington drops a game.
Yep. Wins count. But losses should count too. Maybe even more. Because people aren’t chosen based on how many wins they have. They are chosen by how few losses they have. So by default, losses should carry more weight.

What are people seeing in FSU and their schedule that makes them worthy of a top 4 spot if each conference wins out?

I see in Free Shoes U. Napier finally getting a signature win in the Swamp to nullify their chances. Wuskies and Zer-O-gon will both find a way to dead end things for the Pac-12's last shot. B(16)G with two SEC defectors will see maybe both those defectors getting the bum's rush and no auld lang syne playoff shot for the old conference as they step into the new.

By the time all this plays out, we may well be talking about 'Bama getting into the CFB playoff with not one, but two losses to include beating UGa in the SEC championship. But why speculate - too much fun to savor every other contender and pretender's misfortune as they fall by the wayside.

I guess l lose since l had under 15 posts before someone went with an objection to some team's schedule.

There are 7 teams that play in the SEC West. The division is not big enough to accommodate every FBS team, since this is the actual objection.

They're unbeaten in a Power 5 conference and manhandled LSU. That's why they're so high.

l suspect though they're a paper tiger.
FSU and LSU both looked very good in the first half of their game. FSU absolutely made LSU quit in the second half and physically whipped them all over the field. Since that game, FSU has not looked nearly that dominant. I hope our defense will physically whip LSU this Saturday, but I suspect LSU will hit quite a few big plays against us. We just have to keep bringing the physical play and make them quit like FSU did. We need to play four quarters for the first time this year.

I don't buy this.

1) For starters, Washington has already had close calls against Arizona (on the road, not so bad) and Arizona St (???), Penix appears to be hurting, and they still have USC, Utah, and one of the best Oregon State teams of recent years. They're not going undefeated!!!

Oregon still has USC and Oregon State plus a rematch against...somebody.

2) I still expect Texas to blow a game they should win. They always do. But we might need them to clear out Oklahoma in a rematch, too.

3) While I don't expect this one to happen..
There is still the possibility of round-robin elimination in the B1G. Ohio St eliminated Penn St who eliminates Michigan who eliminates Ohio State and we are left with whoever wins the title game.

In all honesty - with who we have left, including a (currently) highly rated LSU and having to face either Georgia or Missouri.......win and we're in.

I'm surprised Washington is still undefeated. I stayed up late a couple of times to watch them, and if not for an implosion by their competitor, they could easily have two losses.

Not remotely worried, still a lot of football to play.

And if a one-loss Bama doesn't make it, so be it. Shoulda played better against sexat.
I'm not worried either. We win and we are in. No way the SEC champ is left out of the playoff. Best team in the best conference with the best players moves on.

UGA must win out until the SEC Championship Game and the we have to win out and beat'em. The mission still remains the same.
According to many talking heads, we'd still need help even if we beat a 12-0 GA team in Atlanta.

And if I'm being totally honest, IF we can make it to Atlanta and beat GA, and considering how bad things looked only a few years weeks ago, I'd be okay with winning the SEC and missing the playoffs.

Just what the talking heads like to do is stir the pot and get attention. I just can't see us being SEC champions and being left out of the playoffs. Bama brings in too many eyeballs to get left out if they finish 12-1. It is very unlikely that there will still be three undefeated teams left by selection Sunday.

Chaos tends to reign. Who would have thought OU would lose to Kansas?
