I was just listening to Rodney Orr speak on the drew DeArmon show and he said he was talking to a player last night and said the player told him he's already getting calls from Georgia, Ohio State, LSU etc... With today's NIL and transfer portal, we don't have the luxury of waiting very long.
I am not very knowledgeable on the rules regarding the transfer portal. Question: when a player declares for the portal, does he still have the option of remaining with his current team, or is that option dead at that point?

They can come back if the school allows, but they are under no obligation to hold or still honor their scholarship once they enter the portal...

They can enter the portal and still end up staying with the team.

Kiffin may be in such a good position at Ole Miss that moving would make no sense.

With a 12 team playoff he will probably make the tournament with some regularity and he could even win it all there.

He's put his stamp on the program and it may be easier for him to just stay where he is.

Lord knows the expectations are much lower there than at Bama.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. So, when a coach announces that he is leaving, does that trigger the option for a player to enter the portal? If so, how long does a player have to declare for the portal before the door closes? Finally, I always thought that it was against the rules for the coaches of other schools to be contacting players unless the player makes the first move. Maybe all this changed with the advent of the portal. Can someone comment?

The ceiling would be higher at Alabama with his recruiting ability and resources to be successful.

Still hoping for Kiffin even with his baggage, but I still think he has matured. With that said, I've warmed to the idea of Lanning, and I think I'll be disappointed at this point if it isn't one of the two minus the left field option of Demeco answering Mama's call if that actually happened...

Kiffin has been angling for the job for years now. If I had to guess, I would say the refusal would be from our end...

I am a firm believer in what many have posted - this has been planned for a while right down to the day that Saban was going to make the announcement. IF Ryans was going to be an option Saban would not have made this announcement until the Texans were out of the playoffs, IMO

GMAC said no Kiffin and no Demeco.
